picked up some parts from a club member/friend yesterday... I def got the friend/club member price...

heres where my new toy sits... sorry for the poor pic... it's dark... and my camera's battery is dead... it's the only shot I managed to snap before it shut off and wouldn't turn back on...

wrapped with brand new Vittoria Randonneur 700x28 tires

a pair of low end vuelta airline 2 32 spoke wheels (red ones)... came from an older trek 1000... joytec POS hubs from what I hear... but should be a good wheelset to log miles on... plus the red will match nicely haha and preserve the "good" wheelset

low end mtb SPD's...

and some 8spd dura-ace barcons complete with shimano cables and housing (NIB)

also got some old 8spd xtr shifter/brakes for a friends bike and a nice older yokahama trunk rack (nice as my van has a rack but 18mpg sucks... the escort gets almost 2x what the van gets...

he was very generous... and i'm going to thoroughly enjoy it so far I have $260 into the bike... and I prob over paid for the bike a little bit (my own opinion... but it fits me and 25.5inch (64.7cm c-t) frames don't pop up often around here)

now I just need to get the bars a bit higher up and the bars taped up and off i'll be rolling... oh ya... going to order a brooks saddle tommarow...

talk about a bike with an Identity crisis... came with the full suntour blaze groupo (entry level stuff that works)... i'll upgrade the other bits as I have money... derailleurs, crank stoppers... but it'll work with out that stuff and it should be a heck of a lot faster and more fun on the road then my rigid 29er was

bet it'll make my upcomming century ride (well still got 4 months) much smoother then the metric I did last month (on the rigid 29er)

this is how I got it stock... friend gave me some a wider ergo bars when I 1st got it... 2cm wider made a huge diff in comfort

That's a very nice looking ride you got going there. Post some more pics when you get a chance!

I'd say that if you are going to be using the friction bar end shifters then don't bother upgrading the derailers until you absolutly have to.

rear isn't friction... well It can be (which is nice). but is indexed 8spd... and up front I like that it's friction... unlimited trim ... i'll prob swap to an old STX rc MTB rear D I have laying around (the chrome is much nicer looking is the real reason haha)

went to the shop and weighed her up... as shown in the 1st pic she's 25lbs 8oz no light weight but lighter then my MTB... and should be a lot more comfy when i'm done...

new bars (dimension flattop shallow drop), new stem, 1" quill to 1 1/8" stem adapter... have to install the bar tape still but I want to do that with better light out... after I've tweaked the lever location a smidge... inital around the block ridding was good though... I need to find a quill adapter that is another inch taller or so (in pics it's 20mm over the min insertion point it being black would also be nice... also need to install my cycle computer (I log all my rides)

I've decided to pass on the brooks for now ... it's one of those inevitable purchases... but firght now i'm going to spend some time on the saddle that came with the bike (nothing like a 19 y/o saddle haha)... but now i've got upgrade-itis... i'm realy wanting new brake levers and calipers... but that'll wait a while I suppose...




so a few tidbits to finish then log some miles... on a side note... found a decent mag trainer on craigslist for $20... hope to pick it up tommarow

got the bars wrapped... not bad for a 1st time IMHO but def not perfect... got a quick 5mile ride in... the 42/52 crank with the 11-28 cassette sucks... I think i'll be looking at a compact or a triple, depends on what I can afford ... still need a different quill stem adapter (little taller) but a few tweaks should have the fit about right on... also picked up the trainer ($20 CL find)... woot



so far less then $300 invested... still fighting myself on a brooks...
