Heck of a deal...
** Classic 1976 Nishiki International - One Owner - $80 (Golden, CO)
Champagne color. I've owned this baby since new. Just got a new Trek and need to clean out the stable after all these years. Everything is original except for tires, tubes, pedals and brake pads. It's been lightly ridden and has relatively few scratches. She cleans up reeeel gooood. Come take it for a ride. You will not be disappointed.

Contact me if you would like me to take more detailed pictures for you.

Call me at (720)929-0503 if you've got questions. DON'T WAIT - it won't be here forever ...

First time poster here...

Been thinking about building up a SS to commute to school. What do you guys think of this? I haven't bid yet but am strongly considering it. Thanks in advance!

https://cgi.ebay.com/1970s-Gitane-Pro...d=p3911.c0.m14

The seller also has an "early 80's Lotus frame" as well. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It's French, so replacement parts can be problematic, but since he has the parts, I wouldn't worry about that too much. I would at least buy the cranks from him (but ask the seller if one chainring can be removed for your ss conversion). And get the brake calipers. With the Mafac centerpull brakes, you should be able to easily accommodate 700c wheels. I've done this many times with Mafacs on Peugeots.

Oh yeah, and I would post this question on the ss/fixie forum. You should get lots of pointers on how to proceed with a conversion.

I can tell you the Lotus frame is no good—vertical dropouts.

Wonder if the seat tube could be reamed with a very long seat post (or one attached to a rod)?

Btw, aren't vertical dropouts ok for SS, but definitely bad for fixed gear.

They're ok in the sense that you can install a chain tensioner and be ok, but it's a less than elegant solution.

Good candidate I think. The Gitane TdF was the lightest production frame of its day (lighter than the PX-10 even, by a few grams). You'll end up with something very quick and agile yet able to take some pounding on city streets. Also no braze-ons and bosses make for a "harmless" conversion.

Lady's Schwinn Paramount (Pensacola)

Highly modified, late 60's or early 70's Paramount. Small lady's frame, upright steel handlebars and stem, Brooks "mattress" leather saddle, rubber pedals, plastic fenders. Wide range gearing with Huret rear shifter, unknown front. 15 speed with "granny gear" chain ring. Rubber hand grips with Suntour bar end shifters. Front center-pull, rear side pull brakes. Pletcher (sp?) rack. Reynolds 531 frame, lightly pitted chrome stay ends and head tube lugs. Will post pictures and more info in days to come; will answer questions as quickly as possible. Very good condition, still used regularly, but the owner has hit 80 and is getting dizzy spells - time to pass it on.
