Wheel stands better than the Minoura True-Pro
I hate this damn stand. The lateral truing guides/markers/gauges whatever you want to call them totally blow. I had to file out the mounting slots to allow for more adjustment just to get it calibrated 
i've built 3 wheelsets on it and I'm already ready to chuck it out the door. 
so whats a better option that won't bankrupt me? I've got a spare 27" fork lying around if that is any start on making a good stand...I'm open to any idea.
also anyone want a slightly used Minoura True-Pro stand? I'll trade it for something more useful...like a 6 pack of beer

Honestly, if you build and true a lot of wheels, there's nothing better than the Park TS-2. It's an investment, but it will last forever, and if you find you don't use it, you can probably sell it for close to what you bought it for. Mine is 16 years old.

Agreed - Park TS-2 is the way to go if you enjoy building wheels and the Minoura isn't up-to-snuff. I can well see your problem. I had the earlier version of the Minoura back in the 1980's, and it was much worse than the current model. It wouldn't stand upright. It kept collapsing. Bolts came loose. AIIIIIIEEEEE!! 
When I moved one year, I "misplaced" it. It wasn't until years later that I wondered where it had gone. That's how good it was. My TS-2 is a convenient pleasure to use.
