Hamstring Tendonitis and Racing

After 4 weeks of varying degrees of pain in the back of my knee I have come to the conclusion that I have some Hamstring Tendonitis in my left knee. I'm still not sure what caused it, as I haven't changed anything fit-wise on my bike in years, but I have taken some steps to try to relieve the tension on my left hamstring and it's helped. But, my bigger problem is what to do about the rest of my race season. One of my 'A' races, the state time trial, is coming up in earl August. From all my research on how to treat this, is R.I.C.E, and rest, rest, rest etc. Like 4-6 weeks off the bike. So that would mean 2 of my main racing goals would be canceled. (HHH is the other race). My conundrum is that I can still ride pretty hard, and manage the pain enough to where I can still do well in group training rides. In fact, just last week I posted my best 1 min and 5 second Power Numbers after 3 days of rest. However, my endurance is a bit down, as I have reduced volume in an attempt to rest it a bit. After long group rides (3 hours +) it is painful for me to get up from the couch, put pressure on my knee, etc, but it's ok after a day or 2. So has anyone dealt with this? Have you continued to train and race and just "dealt with the pain?" Could I make it worse by continuing to ride for another month? I have just put so much work into preparing for the State TT I'd hate to have to miss it.

Well, I'm going to try to go a lot of ice on the back of my knee and a week of endurance riding , as that doesn't seem to aggravate it too much. Hopefully I can limp through until August 30th.

Have you taken any significant time off?

About 4 weeks ago I took 4 days off in a row. The past few weeks I have been taking 2 days off in a row after 3-4 days of riding.
