clicking noise on middle gears only

clicking noise on middle gears only
Hi All,
I just bought a new 21-speed hybrid bike a few weeks ago but have noticed a clicking noise when I am in two gears -- middle chainwheel and 4th and 5th largest freewheel. The clicking occurs about 2 times per second when cruising at a normal speed (20 kmh) I've taken it into the store but they can't find anything. The derailleur alignment has been checked and seems OK.
I was wondering why there would be this clicking noise on those particular gears. When I'm on the big chainwheel and the same freewheels 4 and 5, the noise disappears. I'm stumped.

New bikes often tend to make odd noises.
I would wait until you have a few miles on the bike; odds are good that the clicks will disappear as things break in a bit.

Thanks for the feedback.
Admittedly, it's pretty new but I've put maybe 200 miles on it now.
On the cable adjustment, do you mean adjusting the tension of the rear derailleur cable? It's been tightened a couple of times already. Initially, it jumped gears at will, so it got tightened at the shop. That solved that problem. Could it be too tight I wonder?

By way of follow up, I finally got this problem fixed today. After a month of back and forth with a very recalcitrant bike shop owner, I convinced the guy to try out a new freewheel. Presto -- no more clicking on the 3rd and 4th cog.
It's pretty frustrating that it took my almost a month and four visits to the shop to get some satisfaction. They guy basically refused to accept that there was a noise and couldn't be bothered riding it to hear it for himself. If it didn't make the noise on the stand, then it didn't exist.
While I was persuading him to change the freewheel, I tried to understand his situation. Didn't the manufacturer (Norco) pick up the liability for return and defective parts? Apparently, not he claimed. If he returned it to them and they determined it was fine, then he was on the hook for it. Hard to believe somehow. Anyway, it wasn't fine so presumably he will be credited for it.
I'm looking forward to next year when MEC starts to sell bikes up here in Canada. They're a reliable outdoor store with a no hassle return policy. Sort of like Walmart but will good quality stuff.
