Geezer Noobie from Minnesota

Probably 55 years since I've straddled a 2 wheeler and 2 days ago I bought a Hybrid at Erik's. I've done about 20 miles and, so far, my name hasn't shown up in the obits. I've kept in reasonable shape with free weights at Bally's and peddling a Catrike 3 wheel recumbent. I want to be able to do 20 miles on local streets without walking it up the hills and maybe before the snow flies I'll be there. I'll be looking for advice and probably a little sympathy.
Thanks

kay9pee,

Welcome. Excellent. 20 miles ain't short. Congrats. My first advice is, when you meet a hill, don't shift down lower than you have to (I'm imagining if it's been 55 years since you last rode, you were probably familiar with a 1 or a 3 speed) because, even though it feels easier, you're liable to run out of breath fast and not get very far. Shift down so that you still have to muscle it somewhat. That way, you won't be spinning and you'll make it to the top of the hill quicker.

As for sympathy, you'll get that on certain Bike Forum categories, not much on others.

Keep us posted!
