The Saga Continues...

Just an update to the Snake Incident...

The selling that I originally thought was a hematoma from hitting my bar end, probably isn't.
Went to the Doc for an unrelated development (strained the other knee) and she noticed the swelling.
She sent me immediately for an MRI suspecting a ruptured or detached quad muscle.

I admit it feels kind of weird but not really painful. Just kind of numb-bruised-itchy feeling. Didn't really feel it too much before due to pain from the other injuries. Now that they are feeling better...
I thought if it had been detached I'd feel more pain and not be walking, but she said other muscles in the group kind of do the same work.

Now I'm sitting around waiting for the results of the MRI (the Doc's office was closed yesterday).
I should hear something Monday.....I Hope.

Anyway, I finally got my camera back from the darlin' daughter so I could post a pic of some of the damage.

Purty ain't it?

I can't really make a decision on the level of suckishness-osity-tude until I know whether surgery is in my future or not. (dramatically increases the suck quotient)
Even then I'll be in a quandary about what to do, if anything, about this. I took a 20 mile ride last Sunday and had one of the faster avg times ever. (I DID notice a bit of a slowdown climbing)
All in all, it looks way more hideous than it feels.
It feels just annoying enough to keep my attention.
Grrrrrf!
Waiting and not knowing are the hard parts.

A detached quad sounds pretty intense. But if you say it doesn't hurt I have to believe you. You sound like--if it is the quad--you're wavering on getting it fixed. Get it fixed!!

Dude: We haven't been formally introduced (hi, I'm Delma, pleased to meetcha), but I just have to say 1) your snake-wreck story made me laugh and laugh and 2) i'm really, really sorry that something that was so funny "on paper" turns out, apparently, to have done some real damage. I'm glad it doesn't hurt and that it doesn't feel as bad as it looks. Maybe you're just tough, tho, in which case you deserve the largest bucket of respect, too. Keep us informed, we're pulling for ya.

Hey There, Delma!

What parts d'ya hale from?
EDIT...just noticed on your post. D'oh!

I'm glad you liked the snake wreck story...often times these things make for the most interesting stories.
A wheel wedged into a crack in the road can be tragic, but a Snake in the path and keystone kop-like crack ups lend themselves to fun and imaginative prose.
I have to admit I had the giggles coming home from the accident, thinking about how I was going to write it up. (OK...shock may have had a little to do with it too....but Hey!...it was a funny scenario!)

I'm somewhat encouraged by the relative lack of pain...though it may have delayed my seeking treatment.
From what I can find on the interweb, the recovery from the surgery is quite lengthy and involves a long period of immobilization followed by physical therapy. NOT a lot of fun.
I'll have to enjoy my relative freedom now if I have to do the surgery later. (shivers)

I'm not too brave...pretty much a whiny coward when it comes to being forced into "Invalid" status after surgery. Just not my cup o' tea.

Called the Doc's office an hour ago to see if they had the results back.
The answer, "Yes, but we're swamped and will have someone call you.".... Eventually (implied).

Bad enough that I've been stewing about it for the last 3 days...I'd just be nice to know...one way or another.

Impatience is me.

Finally some good news!

Just got the results of the MRI and it's not indicating muscle damage.
The homework I've been given is hot compresses to try to move the fluid out of the area.

Nothing like dwelling on the worst scenario (thanks Doc for creepin' me out), sweating bullets for 3 or 4 days, and being given a reprieve!
So back on the bike for me.
Woo and/or Hoo!

(and thanks for putting up with the whining and worrying...I promise some uplifting posts for awhile to make up for all of the doom and gloom.)

I actually think that the snakes injected him with some kind of secret weird venom in his sleep to make his leg swell up like that. All of course, in retaliation for stealing their proclaimed water bottle.

I am not sure that messing with Doug would be such a good idea. Mostly because snakes have connections with other snakes (aka lawyers). I am sure he will be trying to sue the pants off you soon. Well maybe judging by the above picture, he may need to sue something else off you. Anyway, I think he may have several possible angles that he may pursue. First is trespass, you did indeed throw your face at him on his property, I am sure he probably bought the spot from one of his snake relatives who doubles as a used car salesman. Second angle is invasion of privacy since you disrupted his sunning session by trying to run him over with your bike. Final angle is theft, since you took HIS water bottle after he proclaimed it by snake law. I am, not sure what the conversion of people money to snake money is, but I am sure this could run into the ten to twelve dollar range. THAT RIGHT, TEN TO TWELVE DOLLARS !!!!! It may not seem like a lot to you, but to a snake without a water bottle, it is a lot. I would suggest you see if Doug is willing to settle for the return of the water bottle before he sues you for something besides the pants that you don't have on!!!

Please note, it is 106 degrees out side, which is hot for Oregon and I think it is making me a more silly then normal.

So lemme see....

Snakes have connections to Lawyers...

"Lawyer" in French is Avocat...

Avocat in French also means Avocado...

Avocados are tasty when mashed up as Guacamole...

Guacamole is green...

OHMYGOD!!!!

Guacamole is Soilent Green!

Guacamole is people!!!!

Don't eat the Guacamole.....

NNNNnnnoooooooooooo!

Doug may have injected me with Avocado venom and I'm, even now being eaten from the inside.

Quick! I MUST eat some Avocados to produce the antivenin to counteract the swelling in my thigh!!!

IIIIEEEEEEeee!

Either that or I'll just keep applying heat until I can get whatever excess swelling drained out of the area.

The OP tried to run over Doug with his bike, and then attacked him with his face. That's attempted murder, or at least snakeslaughter. The theft of the water bottle is small stuff in comparison. It's likely Doug put out the hue and cry on the OP, and every snake in hell, err, the state of Texas is after him.
