08 Jamis Aurora vs 09?

LBS has an '08 Jamis Aurora that they will sell me for CDN$980. Other (less local) shops either have or will order this year's model for ~CDN$1200. The difference is actually bigger than it seems because there's no provincial sales tax (8%) on bikes under $1000. So while the $980 bike costs me $1029, while the $1200 bike actually costs $1380.

That $350 difference represents upgraded components, panniers, lots o' beer or the initial cost of the department store bike I am currently riding...

Is there a reason to go with this year's model over last?

Thanks,

pubb

I dont believe so. The 09s have a different paint job, the '10s might be coming out soon (do bike model years work like car ones?) I got an 08 jamis satellite and its a very nice bike, I thought about the aurora. I got a bit ripped on price because the new models hadnt dropped nationwide and didnt get the discount.

There`s very little functional difference. The biggest change is that they went from a perfectly serviceable unicrown fork to an equally serviceable, but much prettier lugged fork this year. Fortunately, Jamis has the full specs for both models on their website- you can do your own compare and contrast if you want.

I'd go for the 08. With the $350 you can buy a whole bunch of bike goodies

Really boils down to color...... The white does look pretty nice. Not $350 nice to me but nice.
