Thank you!

The front ring is only temporary. It's the 34t that came with the FSA Team Issue crankset and I'm using it with the 12-25 Ultegra cassette until later this week when my Q Rings 38t front ring and my new Ultegra 11-28 cassette arrive.

I'm really happy with my Gary Fisher Utopia. It's the predecessor to the Trek DS bikes. I settled with it because it is a hybrid that's more mountain oriented. I do take it on some pretty difficult trails and have yet to break anything on it. The fork seems fairly strong, but they new ones all have different forks than what they had 3 or 4 years ago. I have some sort of Suntour fork on it, maybe an NRX or something like that. The wheels also seem to be fairly strong and hold up to what I've thrown at it. Now, I guess you sort of should take that with a grain of salt too. Even though I'm hard on the bike, I weight all of 150 pounds. I doubt me riding it the way I do would be as hard on the bike as someone 200 pounds riding it the same way would be. Whatever your weight is, keep that in mind.

As far as street use, the bike is great. The fork locks out, the tires are't too terribly noisy and they don't slow you down much, and the geometry is comfortable for long rides (one of the main reasons I got the bike). The bike is actually pretty quick too. The only time I have issues keeping up with people is when I'm riding with people who have expensive road bikes. Otherwise, I'm usually one of the front riders.

I'd recommend the DS bikes to anyone. I wouldn't say it's a great replacement for a mountain bike, but it works for me almost in that fashion. Find a shop that carries them, take it for a test ride, and I guarantee you'll be happy with it.

Thanks man!

I spent the day on it yesterday and it's awesome! I sold my Ridley and Globe to only have one bike and this one does the job very well. I did a road ride on it Thursday and hit the rail trails yesterday and I'm very happy. Now all I'm waiting for to finish it is the 38t Q Ring chainring and the 11-28 cassette.

Thanks! Yeah, I've definitely been getting my moneys worth out of it. I don't keep track of my miles, but I've been on it quite a bit this year. I've been trying to cut back on driving, so I ride the bike whenever possible. Heck, even my motorcycle has been sitting in the garage more than normal.

Been commuting on this 2011 Kona Phd for about a year. Got the bars a bit higher, put on Ergon grips and a Brooks saddle, and it rides just fine.

My partner started riding a road bike so I took a MTB that was not getting used much for single track but now goes faster down the pavement and actually still handles the gravel pretty well. Its a Trek GF Marlin with 40mm riser bars and 700x38 Kenda Kross gum wall tires installed.

I finally took some pictures of my bike with skinnier, performance oriented tires.
