Okay, So I was talked into a Yellow jersey at my LBS, Cannondale size 3XL and it fits great. But yellow? The dude told me black was a bad choice for visibility and I do ride alone. But yellow with a livestrong helmet and livestrong shades(I support the cause, Not obsessed with Lance)? Let me know if this is too much for a fat guy chugging on a road bike, Thanks-James

I think anything that helps you be visible is great. I ride most times alone and also in darkness. This morning I went for an 80 miler and wore a sleevless Hi-Vis jersey (neon yellow i guess) and bright blue shorts. I left at 5AM (still completely dark).

Black for sure is a bad choice for visibility and also feels really hot when the sun starts beating down on you.

HiVis yellow is appropriate for ANYONE who bikes on a road that motor vehicles use. Don't ever let a car driver tell the cops, "Honest, sorry, I just didn't see 'em." . Or any bright/light color. Safety and function get priority over fashion and other people's prejudices. Just make sure the jersey fits and is comfortable. HiVis is not a color known in nature (that I'm aware of) and you won't blend into the landscape and be invisible to cars.

Black is an appropriate color for SHORTS. Matches bike grease and road splat usually.

I was going to suggest the hi-viz, which appears as a neon yellowish-greenish eye stab (but I like it); glad somebody else put it out there first.

I was also going to say, "anything but yellow -- they'll think you're a Lance poser, IF they see you." But to each his own......

Too loud?? Heck, this is my favorite color while riding mountain roads or city streets. I don't care about being too loud, I'm all about staying alive!

Safety, first and foremost with me. HiVis yellow for both my zipper-sleeve and full-sleeve jackets.

Shorts, shoes, anything else, go fashion to one's heart's content.

I think most members of metal bands tend toward black, red, and silver mostly. Those gotta be the loud colors, right?

After this years TdF you would be a Contadore poser wearing yellow. My suggestion is don't sweat the B. S. (not talkin' Bachelor of Science here). Most likely anything you do is going to tick someone off and life's too short to please everyone.

Might as well just please yourself. Wear yellow, orange, lime green with purple polka dots if you want.

Anybody that hates on livestrong can f of! I believe wearing the bright colors showes confidence and the ladies love confidence. Purple might attract the other boys, which is not my cup of tee.

When I ride, unless it is some special occasion, I am always in black bibs and hi-vis yellow jersey. I also usually have a rear blinky (even during the day) and a front facing strobe light.

No such thing as being too visible.

I never understood that "Lance Wannabe" comment from non-cyclists. Besides, I'm not trying to be Lance, I'm trying to NOT be like the people in a nursing home for super-morbidly obese like on Discovery channel.

Thanks for all the help Guys, I needed that. Starting out is rough when your fat, BF really makes a difference. So I am wearing yellow and will post pics from my fist 30 miler on Monday once I get my new wheel fron my LBS. Thanks-James

+1 on you can never be too loud. I have a Livestrong wind jersey, and I WILL have a Livestrong helmet someday.

Go with what YOU like and what YOU are comfortable in because when you are clipped and pedaling it's ok for it to be all about YOU!

I too ride alone alot (350-400 miles per month) and early mornings and dusk.

I wear bright comic book logo'd PI jersey's of Spiderman, Captain America and the Silver Surfer. Not for vanity but for "can't miss ya".

Agreed. Loud colors = visibility! My daughters always tell me "no" when I'm looking at bright yellow, green, or orange cycling clothes. I won't wear bright pink though.

A couple of years ago I was a witness to an accident where a cyclist was hooked by a car in blocked traffic. As much as my immediate sympathies were with the cyclist, I had to say the accident was his fault - he was zooming through narrow gaps in jammed traffic, sprinting way out forwards over his bars - and dressed in black. There was no way it was fair to expect the driver of the car to have seen him against the high contrast end of day shadows across the road. Wearing yellow or another high visibility colour was one of several things the idiot could have done that might have saved him several weeks in hospital.

(Riding in a position where he could have used the brakes hard the moment he saw trouble would have been smart too. The muppet.)

In all fairness, when/if you get hit, the driver is going to say that very phrase whether you're wearing all black or all hot pink. I haven't gotten hit (knock on wood), but there have been plenty of close calls regardless of my attire. Inattentive drivers won't be shocked into awareness because your shirt is yellow.

Saw a guy yesterday dressed head to toe in bright safety yellow; coat and long pants each with the silver reflective bands on them. The outfit looked like what road crews would wear during inclement weather. You couldn't miss him from 2 miles away. I was impressed.
