Bacon. It has become torture.
I pass a restaurant on my commute and they are usually making breakfast. As I go by, the smell of bacon wafts ever so casually in my direction. A few miles later I reach into my jersey pocket for my mid-ride banana and it seems so unsatisfying.
I might have to fill my jersey pocket with bacon tomorrow.
How hard could it be to get bacon grease out of the fabric, really?

It isn't. Particularly if you put it in a ziplock bag. Bacon is the ultimate power snack as you can justify it from a nutritional, morale, AND mechanical standpoint: the grease is especially handy if you need chain lube in a pinch

Delicious smells on my commute:
Cinnamon rolls near Pike Place Market.
Doughnuts or other baked goods at the Hostess plant near work.
Crossaints at Le Panier.
Fresh sea scented breeze in the mornings.
Suprisingly no coffee smells. I don't go by but one coffee shop on my commute, which is very strange.

Somehow this thread is going to blend into the "dog barking" thread very soon.

Once in awhile I make BLTs' for eight. Chipped in for a big electric griddle.
Comes to 3 bucks for 2 sandwiches and a glass of OJ.

Everyday as I travel between work locations I have to ride past the most gigantic curbside BBQ outside a little Jamaican restaurant. MMMm.....smells so good, almost makes me want to stop bringing my lunch to work.

I have a fairly rural route, I can't remember foods, though I smell cigarettes in the very early am (6-7) I figure the person has woken up and is having a morning cig outside, considerate I suppose.
It seemed like each week this summer had its own scent, there was liliac along one corner (a rural route), hay, horse manure took center stage after light rain, there was also a distinct sweet smell for a few weeks. I'm still not sure what it was, though my theory was it was lilies. Less attractive was the road kill in the woods that would get hot and fragrant for a few days.
One house is very enthusiastic at using its watering system, it smells moldy! Its quite dramatic, though the lawn looks great.

I don't ride by anything yummy on the way in. On the way home, all the restaurants are cooking dinner. It tends to influence where the takeout comes from.

I saw a special on Food TV last night on fried foods. One of their favs was deep fried bacon in a tempura batter.
They should make bacon flavored Cliff bars!

Sometimes when I bike home I am attacked by the scent of Indian food (sometimes I pass through an Indian neighbourhood) pure hell! I am severely tempted to pull over at the best smelling house, knock on the door and asked to be invited to dinner. *SIGH*

My commute passes through the produce section of the warehouse district. In addition to forklift drivers being easier to deal with than most, the smell of fresh fruits and veggies is great.

Tonight on the way home from work I passed by a soccer tournament being catered by the Maximus Minimus pulled-pork-sandwich bus:
I had to stop.
Eating pork from a bus shaped like a pig is the bike-commuting food experience.
