2009 Trek 7.2 vs 2009 7.3
Hi all,
I'm currently riding about 65-80 miles every week on MTB (Specialized Expedition). I'm riding on a bike path and i'd like get a faster, and reliable daily rider. I don't have any mechanical issues with my bike, but i think the frame is small for me (i'm 6' tool and it's an M sized frame).
I'm looking at the trek 7.2 or 7.3 and i'm having a little trouble deciding. I can get the 7.2 for $489 and the 7.3 for 589.
I'm basically looking for a solid bike i can use for fitness. The major difference i see is in the wheels, but is there anything else I'm missing? Any advice would be great

Aside from the wheels that you mentioned, the frames and forks are made of different materials on the '09 7.2 (alpha white aluminum frame with cro-moly steel fork) and 7.3 (alpha black aluminum frame and FX alloy fork). And even though the gearing is the same, the crankset and cassette is different between the two, as well as the shifters.
Will any of that make a difference to you? Only you can say....I'd recommend taking them both out for a ride and see which you like better.
I have an '09 7.3 and have been very happy with it.

Come'on now, I don't everyone thinks you're a 6' tool =)
The biggest difference to me was the 7.2 and 7.3 have different frames. 09 7.3 uses the same frame the 7.5 has. As parts wear out you can always upgrade, but the frame you will be stuck with. Also around here the 09 7.3 is going for 500, I would negotiate a deal. Other thing to consider is the 2010 7.2, that now has the black aluminum frame and the newly redesigned bontrager tires. So you could go for the newer model as well.
good luck

i wasn't a 6' tool before, but I think I am one now I could go for the '10 7.2 but it's only $50 more for the 09 7.3. I think i'll just spring for that. I'm definitely going to try to negotiate a deal and bring them down to $500 (since that's what it sells for on the web).
I'm hoping i can get $250 for my specialized mtb.
