Italian BB Dilemna?
I've had fun posting on this forum. Really! But, as many of you could probably tell, often I feel like that kid that can't swim that just wandered into the deep end of the pool. I feel that way right now. The problem: I have an Italian bike frame with an Italian BB. (Who would have guessed?) For my own sake, I wont go into all of the expensive stupid mistakes I've made if you don't mind. But, I bought an FC-7700 crank that I would like to put on it. What size, model Octalink BB would be compatable?

Apparently, they come in different lengths. These cranks are doubles. I just saw the price of DAs BB and am thinking that is too much for me.

Well Rob, it's been quit a work in progress and an education, that's why I made fun of the comment you made, but with this last piece of the puzzle, I think I can finally start to build. I thought the wheelset was going to be the "big" problem. I think I got that solved pretty nicely. Hopefully. I love working on bikes. I'm just new at it.

If it doesn't pan-out, call universal. The 108 & 109.5 are the "same" ck anyway I suppose. If it IS the shorter either 108 or 109.5 it's about $62. Old Ital. bikes were mostly the short sizes. Good luck with the trade.

A tip I picked up here that really helps is to take the dust cap/extractor out when you install the crank. Then you can make sure the splines are lined up before torqueing down the crank bolt. It's easier than you think to goof up the mating surfaces on these if you're not careful.
