Greetings from Atlanta
My name is Brent - I am 44 and live in Atlanta, GA right now.
I started riding about a year ago in order to train for a triathlon - well, did not make it to the triathlon because work did not allow me the time to train. However, I did learn that I really enjoyed bike riding so I just resigned from my job and decided to do a bike tour around the U.S. starting this coming spring (2010). I have started to do a little riding/training recently on a off-brand hybid and need to buy a Touring bike sometime soon.
Let the adventure begin!

Welcome abord, Brent.
Check out the Touring section. They'll help you pick out a frame.
By the way, Google the string, "BME bicycle" you'll find some neat bamboo and carbon frames made by Brano Meres.

Welcome Brent.
A Jamis Aurora is an excellent touring bike. Stop by Intown Bicycles to see it. Great shop (I'm almost 65 and just retired from there) and the owner does bike tours every spring and fall. He just got back from his Atlanta to Washington DC tour.
And stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals in the Atlanta/Decatur thread.
