All my friends seem to go down because they get stuck in the clipless pedals and stop moving--bad. Not to be outdone by them, I slid across some slippery mud with the bicycle still attached to my feet. When my body crashed down on the ground, my belly absorbed a good amount of shock, but protected my ribs very well. Let this be an example of where being fat is a good thing.

I still had nearly 10 miles to ride in the chilly wind before I could make it to the car. The deepest gash is about a centimeter deep and an inch long (you could see the white in there--it was gross).





These are shots of my arm. My knee was torn up pretty bad, as well, and my entire left side seems to be broken up portions of the same bruise.

So don't ride on slippery mud over pavement. It's like black ice for us southern Californians.

Oh man! That's gonna be a real technicolor experience in a few days. Keep it clean and it will look and feel nice in a couple of months but I feel for you 'cause I've been there too!

Thanks Pancho for the words of encouragement. The past few days, the body has been very sore. It's my first crash.

Ha! For sure. After another 10 miles to get to the car, then the what-seems-like-forever ride back to the house, the wound was mostly dry. The shower, sir, did not feel too good. Having to pick at the wound to be sure that there were no sediments still stuck in the gash was a very unnerving task to say the least.
