Rims... anything "between" a 30mm clincher and FP80 Clincher?
Just looking at rims here for a "budget" minded wheel set. I see a huge gap between an 82mm FP80 clincher rim (about 500 bucks for rim only) and 30mm rim, like a Velocity Deep V or DT Swiss RR 1.2, in the $50-75 range. Is there anything in between (other than the obvious, a Flashpoint 60 which is only a few bucks cheaper).
I see there is the Velocity B43 rim, but pretty sure this is not really a racing rim.

buy used? carbones go for around 500 a set, lots of deals exist, troll the tri-boards (ST, others) - they all have them and change them out frequently
New: Psimet
others: soul wheels, williams, neuvation, etc

See my signature for wheelsets. I have 20, 38, 50, 60, and 88s. Clinchers are all on the same rims as many other big name manufacturers and my prices are really competitive, especially when you consider free shipping. I'm also handling any warranty issues (where as a lot of other spec-importers basically leave you out to dry), and I will replace or repair any race-damaged wheel(s) for my cost + shipping (which is better than any body I've seen).
No, there are not a lot of options for new. If you're just looking for hoops, I can get those for you as well - contact me for prices (although you could buy my wheelsets and disassemble them and still come out ok than some over-priced big name rims).

It sure would be nice if American Classic let their 420s go as loose rims.

Agreed, but we do have the H+Son SL42 option. A wheelset is going to be about 400 grams heavier than a AC 420, but they're 42mm deep vs. 34mm. They've also got real braking surfaces and they're quite a bit stiffer. AC420's are my race wheels (sad, I know), but there are a lot of things about them that I don't particularly care for. In terms of an all-'rounder, I think the Kinlin 30mm rim is a better rim with what must be small aero losses. I've been told that Kinlin makes the 420. It'd be a lot better rim if they put a real breaking surface on it. They could probably make that change alone and sell them like crazy under the Kinlin name.

Yeah, I guess aluminum can only do so much. I've thought about the H+Sons too... I've also thought about buying Soul S4.0s and throwing a PTap in the rear...

I am actually looking for a very fast track wheelset but nobody is around in the track forum much. I guess ideally a disc in the rear and, I already have a FP80 road wheel to run up front.
I thought about Flashpoint because its the "cheapest" deep rim you can get, at $500 (!) a pop. It is also a good "in between" for windy days. a FP80 in the rear is going to be OK in all but the worst wind I think.
The Flashpoint 80 wheels are 957 g front / 1136g rear wheel, not sure about rim only weight.
