Hi i'm new here all the way from New Zealand and have joined to get your help with my front deraillerur (sorry if the spelling it incorrect) problem

Ok so i ride a Haro Flightline Comp 08 and i love the bike i spend the whole day practicing my wheelies and bunny hops. But the bike has always had problems with the front deraillerur, i have to be pedaling extremely fast to even give it a chance to change gear which is difficult because in the area where i live it is very hilly so i change gears regulary. Ok so it will change down really easily but if i try and change up a gear it will just make the chain rub and it won't change gear so pretty much the only way to change gear is with my hands which is really anoyying.

I know there is a problem with the front derailleur (its not 100% user error ) because when i am in 13th gear the chain will rub on the derailleur

I don't know much about bikes (i build computers not bikes ) i don't want to take my bike to the bike shop because you know when you send your bike to the mechanics they can never find the problems. But if you could tell me how to fix it in simple terms it would be much appriciated

I tried to do it but I'm kinda confused on what I am meant to do and I think after today's efforts I have just made it worse I'm going to take the bike into the bike shop tomorrow and see if I can get them to explain to me what I am meant to do to adjust it because I'm way confused at the moment

The first thing to do is check the alignment of the front dérailleur (FD). Set the dérailleur to the largest chain ring. Make sure that there is about 1 MM (thickness of a penny) of clearance between the outboard edge of the FD and the chain ring in height. This will require you to loosen the dérailleur and raise or lower as needed on the seat tube. Then be sure that the outboard edge of the FD is parallel with the chain ring and not cocked or rotated.

The 2 screws on the dérailleur limit the high and low positions or the maximum and minimum throw of the dérailleur. They stop the chain from being thrown into the frame on the inboard side or onto the crank on the outboard side. However, they can be set where the dérailleur does not have enough travel and will not shift in the full range. Read the directions on the park site, as they are better than we can give here briefly.

Yay!!! I got the front derailleur all figured out i watched this really useful youtube (i will add a link to it later) and its changing the gears much better, i still have to be at a quite moderate speed to change up to the higher chain rings anybody got any tips?
