I'd suggest an upgraded wheelset, have the wheels rebuilt by a good shop with double butted spokes. The rims and hubs should last for the time being but you could upgrade one or the other of these parts. The mavic EX729 rims are nice but with the rebuild blow your £150. Learn how to maintain your hubs, so get "zinn and the art of mountainbike maintenance" and a cone spanner or two. The wheels really do take most of the punishment in DH.
