Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 5200

Hi there,

I just got (friday) my new Trek 5200 bicycle...
I rode about 150 km with it and I must say
it's an amazing piece of technology.
However, there are still some questions that are
concerning me. Since I live in the neighborhood of
the trajectory of the famous 'Ronde van Vlaanderen'
(Tour of Flanders), a lot of my rides include the
cobblestones. Does anybody know how well the
bike can resist these 'inconveniences'? The frame
is not going to fall apart from rushing over these
stones, I hope?

Regards,
H.

ps: Seems I've been posting in the wrong forum before.

I've owned my Trek OCLV bike since 1994 and have about 20,000 miles on it. It still rides like new. Not sure how the roads here would compare to your roads, but we have some bad areas too.

According to their website, Trek claims the OCLV will outlive a steel bike when just looking at fatigue factors.

The good news is - if it does fail while riding over those conditions - Trek will replace it for as long as you own the frame.

Of course, it you take a hammer to it and claim it was cobblestones, Trek will laugh in your face.

Worry more about your wheels than frame/etc. The Bontrager Race lights that come on Us 5200's are capable of warping on tough roads.
