Is your significant other into biking?
Not sure if any threads have dealt with this topic but i'm curious how many people around here have significant others who are into biking as much as they are or if they just put up with it?

Yes and no. I'm into biking far more than she who must be obeyed. I'll be on the bike 2-4 times a week and she will grab a bike ride on a weekend here and there and generally enjoys the ride.

Yes. But I'm the one riding double centuries while he prefers occasionally riding 5 miles to the market.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Our shared love of cycling is what brought us together and she that is to be obeyed actually encourages my interest in all things bicycle related be that through my business endeavors, advocacy work, and never begrudges me for needing to ride a little farther and a little faster sometimes.
She used to say she was not fast enough and could not ride as far but she does not give herself credit for being as strong a cyclist as she is... and as she is primarily a utilitarian cyclist she always seems to be carrying a bike's weight in stuff in addition to riding a bike that is no lightweight.
She is my favourite companion when it comes to riding and in life.

I'm quite lucky in this regard. My wife actually got me into biking. We routinely do centuries and other organized rides together. We're currently training for our first Tri.

Not any longer - she's moved to walking and hiking while I still prefer cycling. We biked together for about 10 years - first on singles, then a tandem, then a tandem pulling a trailer with kids.

Not really. She has her own bike she rides and she stokes on our tandem but she bikes exclusively to spend time with me and not because she cares about riding bikes.

Yes, she got into it so we can have something in common. She's currently bike commuting 20km round trip. Toronto's transit fare is now $3. This saves her $6 a day!

Yeah, but it's been a tough year for us.
We've ridden tandems together since 1976. I won't bore you with the long story but riding tandems together has clearly been a lifestyle changing experience for us. It has driven every aspect of our family life and, I think, the overall result has been extremely positive.
August 9 I broke both elbows. That has been another lifestyle changing incident. We haven't ridden our tandem since. My orthopedic guy says that after 6 months they will have healed about as well as they are going to. I'm coming up on 6 months, and I'm not at all sure I could manage the discomfort for a 30 mile ride.
Any problem that can be solved with money isn't really very serious. Next month we are planning a trip (weather dependant) to Hays, Kansas to try out a Rans recumbent tandem. I'm cautiously confident that'll work for us.

Yep. We both commute to work together 3-4 times weekly at 4:30 am and we work the same hours every day. I think it's great for the relationship to get to see each other so much.

Mine is an infrequent rec rider. The weather has to be right etc as she looks at her cycling as "a pleasant way to spend an afternoon".

My wife and I met in college when we both cycle commuted to class each day. During our first summer together, almost every date was a bike ride somewhere.
Over the years as I've gotten more hard core, she's gotten more into yoga and less into cycling. She'll get out there with me on rare occasion, but generally only on the back of our tandem.

my wife used to ride a lot, before I did... I figured when I bought my road bike last winter, it might be something to do together but we never did. Thinking this year, I might buy a little trailer or child seat to bring my daughter along & that might get my wife out too.
