Swapping Wheelsets
I currently have a cyclocross bike. Would it be more practical to alternate between wheel sets with road tires and cross tires or should I just buy a road bike as well, instead of swapping wheelsets? By practical I mean how much time is being consumed swapping out wheelsets, can I do it at home, and a general price. Thanks in advance!

I have 2 wheelsets. It would be easier to have two bikes, obviously, but much more expensive. I think the trick is to get wheels that have the same dish and are the same width so you don't have to adjust the brakes each time you switch. For me, I have the same wheelset. One with size 25 road tires and the other size 32 cross tires. Throw the bike on the stand and 2 minutes later, I'm ready to go.
Price depends on what you get. You can get a decent set of wheels for around $200-250.

All wheels ought to have the same dish.
In addition to having the same rim width, you want the cassette spacing to be the same, so it would be ideal to use the same wheels, or at least the same rear hub, or use a spacer or something to match.
OTOH it really doesn't take that long to swap clincher tires at home with a floor pump.

You can vary the cassettes a bit - 12-25 on one wheel and 12-27 on the other - without worrying about chain length.

I got a second pair of Mavic Aksiums because I got tired of changing tires. Bike came with Aksiums and they'd been very reliable despite my clydesdale abuses so I got another pair. Now I have a singlespeed/fixed road bike that has become my primary around town / short ride bike so it's not as big of a deal any more but for a while I was swapping between road and cross tires pretty frequently. It got old really fast. Now when I race I mount two sets of cross tires and I have a spare set. My cross bike only sees road tires now if I want to ride something like a century or a really hilly ride.
