1981 Trek 613

I bought this bicycle from a guy who had it sand blasted and powder coated maroon. He knew that it was Reynolds 531 double butted and that it was a Trek 613. I decided that for a $150 a freshly powder coated vintage trek of any type was worth it so I bought it. I asked him what the original color had been and he had said a kind of goldish color. using this information, a few google image searches, and vintage trek.com, I determined that the 613 was only made 2 years. 1981 and 82; I have the earlier. I compared the catalog on vintagetrek and it looks like I have all the original components save perhaps the chain, tape, tires, cables, and housing. If you look at the scanned in 1981 catalog on vintage-trek it has hand written numbers next to a few of the models, a couple of them have a pair of smaller underscored zeros next to them, implying prices. The 613 has a price of "389" next to it in the catalog.

If I felt like it I could have the decals reconstructed exactly as they were.

So vintage trek experts, what is it worth?

Look up the serial number, the vintage Trek site will tell you exactly what model and year. Powder coat and the lack of decals hurts value significantly.

The main frame is 531, but the fork and stays are high ten steel. Bike came with middle of the road Suntour components.

With 27 inch wheels, lack of original paint and decals, around here I would put its market value right around the $150 point.

The quality and build specifications on Treks (and other brands as well) varied a lot year to year.

Definitely not a 1982 as it lacks top tube cable braze ons.

Trek OEM paint is near indestructable, the best I have seen. So I wonder why it got the repaint.

Your Trek

Was a Golden Brown with 531 Main Frame tubing. If you chose to Restore check the vintage trek site first. Then go swap meets look for the parts. And believe me it took me 3 years to do mine.

This wheelset does not look original (look at the valves)... What components are on the bike now? $150 is a fair deal.
