ok, I can research tires till im blue in the face, but I need some suggestions. Not for my hybrid, but for my MTB that I ride on the fine crushed gravel of the NYS erie canal trailway. 26" wheels. I have Panaracer Fire XC pro on right now, LOVE those tires, but need something less aggressive, but still with some tread on them. This year I am going to make it my objective to ride the canal trail every single weekend (that it doesnt rain). 30-40 miles per weekend (in one day). Price is really not much of a concern, but I would appreciate less than $30/tire. Something that is going to last. I dont do much offroad, but still want some knobbies. I would prefer a 1.8 width or smaller, so I could mount fenders (that dust from the gravel makes a mess...) I want something that will provide with the same durability the fire xc pros have, ZERO flats in the hundreds if not thousands of miles they have seen, on/off and inbetween road.

Schwalbe Hurricanes are my favourite mixed use mtb tyre... they rock on the road (at 75 psi) as they roll out very fast and have used them for everything from crushed gravel trails to twisty singletrack (35-40 psi) and winter riding. They are 2.0 so fender clearance may be an issue but if they work the difference between these and the Fire Xc on the road is like night and day. I know this because I have run Fire XC's on the same bikes that have the Hurricanes.

I have well over 10,000 km on mine and you can hardly tell them from new tyres... for a more aggressive tread the Schwalbe CX Comp comes in a 26 and my experience with these has also been very good as far as miles ridden and flats go as they too seem impervious to wear and have never flatted.

Consider Schwalbe Marathon Supremes. A little pricey, but, mine have been bulletproof.

Ok, I will add a few more things I forgot to mention. No slicks. Not even semi-slicks. Looking for a slimmer full knobby tire that is going to hold up to fine gravel. Road use is very limited with this bike, the most would be a few miles from my girlfriends house to the trail. I have no problem out rolling her trek 7100wsd with my mtb and current tires. Im not opposed to fire xc pro again, if only they made a narrower tire.

I use Supremes on dirt, asphalt, grass, concrete, pit run gravel(coountry roads), CA-6(driveway gravel), fine aglime(sometimes called screenings), and sand/lime mix. They work wonderfully!

Found some continental "traffic" tires that look and sound about like what I am looking for...anyone have experience?
