Max Steerer tube top length?
Hi,
I am wondering if there is a maximum length for the steerer tube above the headset.
My steerer is 200mm total. There is 65 mm above the headset, 50 of which is my stem and 15 is spacers.
Any problem with this setup? Or any problems if I switch to a 45mm stem with 20 mm of spacers?
Opinions are appreciated.
Thanks,

No problem other than looking a little dorky. Steerer tubes are designed longer than necessary to fit frames with varying headtube lengths. After determining the optimal length it is generally accepted to cut the steerer tube down.

And if the star nut is already in place the procedure for cutting the tube would be:
1. Cut above the start nut.
2. Reset the nut farther down the tube.
?

2. Reset the nut farther down the tube.

It's whatever you want. Some extra on top or bottom of the stem gives you some room to experiment with stems or stem position. A longer steerer tube is more useful than a shorter one if you change it over to a bike with a longer head tube, or want to sell it. 15mm or 20mm isn't much in any case.
Worked out fine...but I'd have preferred to keep my Transition stem versus the Spank.
