LBS Say what???
"We aren't selling the 2010 until we sell out of last years models, but we are offering discounts"
What??? From what I can read here the new Trek 7.2 has a different, better aluminum that is worth the extra money. BUT... Not I'm not willing to wait until they sell out of the old ones...
I was driving to the next town over tomorrow anyhow... Perhaps they have a dealer that wants to sell a current model.
Aaaarrrhhhhh!!!!

That sucks, they won't even let you order a new one? I went to one that said they won't carry any 2010s, but you can order them at a discount.

Didn't bother asking about having them order. I'm testing a few different bikes tomorrow. Plus, I was in earlier in the week and a different sales person said they had gotten 75 new bikes in the back room. Sound pretty simple to me to at least offer to check to see if they had one in...
Chances are I'll end up on a new bike tomorrow. Sadly, they will be from the next town over (about 50 miles away), not from my LBS...

That does suck. It's just crazy.
On the other hand, congrats on the new bike-to-be!

A stupid way to run a business. Maybe the owner failed Business 101. Common sense isn't even in his head.

Yes - you want the 2010 7.2 FX. The frame material is very much worth the cost and wait - and you want a new bike-shop. That one is stupid. I wouldn't let them fix a flat. More data here:
https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/compa...lpha_aluminum/
The alpha-black aluminum is on the 2010 7.2. The 2009 is cheaper aluminum material.

Find another LBS. There are plenty more of them. No need to buy from the one which is willing to sell you something...when and if he feels like it. Stupid policy, that will eventually get them out of the business. And that is a god thing, no such store should be allowed to force their potential customers into buying what they think is right. Stupid.

Chose to make the drive. I drove to the next town and spent the morning riding. Ended up with the Rapid 3, though the Trek 7.3 made the choice really tough.
I was surprised how much better the 7.3 was than the 7.2. But neither was quite as nice as the Giant.

with the current state of the ecconomy, consumers should be patient and tolerant with small bussiness owners who may have purchased their usual stock only to find that they had over bought and now need to sell out their stock before ordering the new stock. if however this is a corporate trek store, as is the one here, which is why i don't think anyone else here now carries trek, then they have little to no excuse.

If it was a stocking issue, I would understand, and I might have been willing to wait them out. But they told me the previous week that they had 75 new bikes in the back room, one of which I'm sure was the bike I wanted to check out.
Also, when I asked about the differences between the 09 and 10 he told me they were insignificant. And everything I have read tell me that the 10's are significantly different from the 09's. From the frame material to the components.
Needless to say, i made the drive to the next town over and found a Giant (Rapid 3) which I loved. And the shop I bought from was great.
I'm glad I didn't like the Trek better, I would have been in a quandary. Because the Trek rep in the next town tried to put me on a woman's bike twice. He didn't seem to know the difference unless he checked the color chart in his book. Certainly not a place I would buy from.
