wow running does not equal cycling
I have been training for a 25k run in march... i also got a bike over the winter that i rode on a set of rollers over snowy months for 20-30 min at a time with the intent of getting into some road and cyclocross rides this year.
I have a chronic injury to my ankle that i have an MRI scheduled for monday... i thought i had it licked this year as i have been running 1/2 marathons each year for the past 3 years, following which i have to take 6 mo off of running to heal.
rode 15 miles today, and my legs are whooped. . crazy that i can run 15 miles but can't ride em. It's a different kind of tired... more in the legs less in the lungs, but i loved it (first warm weather ride of the year). Guess i will be swapping my weekday/end runs for rides for a few weeks till i meet the surgeon.
thought id share for any runners who think they can hop on a bike and pedal with the hardkore doods... that is all

The problem I have is, I can cycle almost any distance, so my cardio fitness is high, so whenever I decide to start running again after a layoff, I head out and "think" I feel great and end up going too fast, which usually results in me barely being able to walk for the next 2 days with the muscle soreness

The length-tension relationships are all wrong if you expect direct transfer to running or vice-versa.

yeah they use complimentary muscles, etc.
after injuring my achilles a couple years ago I was advised to ride a bike during my rehab and that helped a lot.
