And to think this heartless b!tch was a nurse's aid. Obviously she wasn't paying attention when she was taught that nurses were meant to help people with life threatening injuries.

In my book this is a case for the death penalty! At the very least life imprisonment. She made no effort to help this injured man. This is a sad day for all humanity when you hear something like this.

A nurse friend in Boston emailed me that story the other day. She can't get it out of her mind....

It reminded me of an AA meeting I attended where somebody said she would get up the morning after and go look at her car to see if it had blood on it.

Sixteen years on June 16 since I quit drinking, and that's one decision I have never regretted for a split-second.

'Simply'? Jeez. It's one thing, and a bad enough thing at that and not something to be discarded by a 'simply', to 'not stop and render aid' in a moment of panic and flee the scene. It's quite another thing to 'not stop and render aid' over a period of days while the guy dies in the garage.

I like to think that people basically want to do good, they just sometimes have a misguided sense of 'good', but the only explanation I can think of for this woman's behaviour is old fashioned Evil. If this story is in fact true, then the death penalty is probably too light, unless they execute her slowly over a period of days and stop by occasionally to apologise.

IF there's a good part to this, it is that the case happened in Texas where there is the highest likelihood that the miscreant will be snuffed by the state. It would be a positive shock to the grossly overpriviliged motoring population of the US for a killer driver to ride the needle! Remember, DRUNK DRIVERS AREN'T PEOPLE! Don't mess with Texas, baby! YEEEEEEHHAAAAAAA!!!!!

Not a quote from anybody but myself, just pure common sense and wisdom. In 1990 riding in New Zealand, I did see a big billboard with the slogan "Drinking then driving sucks" on a road in the Coromandel Peninsula. As we were arriving at a restaurant on the South Island, we did see this young man sitting on the hood of his Holden holding a quart of orange juice and a bottle of vodka, pouring some of the oj on the ground and filling the space back up with vodka. Arrgggh!
Here's another: "Every Drunk Driver should be treated like a King--a Rodney King!"

You know, I could understand the drunk-driver-hit-and-run part of this. I think it's stupid beyond belief, but I can understand how it micht happen. What I don't understand is how Mallard could then, once she had sobered up, just leave this man to die. That beggars even the most tenuous logic. This woman is missing a part of her brain.

They say the sequel to "American Psycho" is going to have a female play the lead. I had difficulty imagining a female version of Patrick Bateman. I have no problem picturing a female american psycho after reading that story.

I don't give her the benefit of being impaired. She seems to have been perfectly aware of what she was doing. Terribly disturbing image painted by the prosecution. Frighteningly believable too.

I would have thought this had already happened, but the AP just reported today that this woman was finally officially charged on Thursday--murder and tampering with evidence. It was random I came across this info and will most likely miss any news about her sentencing, so if someone hears more as this trial unfolds let us know.

I'm sure she'll be convicted, but what will her punishment be? 20 years, life, death? Let's make bets! Double your money if you get the day of her Texas style execution right. What will her last words be? "#!@&%! pedestrians" maybe.

I'd say have every rider in the Giro d'Italia stuff a rusty hook through her flesh, and secure a rope to the base of his-or-her seatpost. It'll help keep the paceline intact, and one can follow the race simply by looking for the entrails...





I have no sympathy nor pitty for drunk drivers; I drink, and I've been plastered many times -- which is why I've slept on many couches and in hallways. I'd rather sleep on a park bench than take the chance of depriving a family of their mother or father.

I don't support the death penalty, so I hope this pathetic woman gets a nice, long prison sentence. The turth is, she'll probably end up taking a plea to vehicular manslaughter or something like that. She'd be stupid to even bother going to trial- no one is going to acquit her because she showed total lack of regard for the man's life.

Here in San Diego, a 19-year-old woman was weaving through traffic at 100mph on Interstate 5, under the influence of 1/2 gm. of cocaine and a full bottle of wine. When her Mercedes struck a pickup truck, she killed the other motorist, a Mexican citizen who ironically had an adoring daughter about her age. If she is ever permitted to operate a motor vehicle again, justice will not have been served, and public safety will not have been protected.

The huge disparity in socioeconomic status between the perpetrator and the victim should make this case even more interesting.

I'm sure sister Chante has a good Johny Cochran type of attorney.

I am very much in favor of lifetime revocation of driving privileges for anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol/cocaine/etc.

There has been a dramatic decrease in alcohol related deaths and injuries in the past 20-22 years. At that time, under federal pressure(loss of highway funding), most states increased the legal age for alcohol consumption and the penalties for DUI/DWI. The penalties were further increased a couple of years ago.

For some, even this is insufficient and I can sympathize with a zero tolerance policy. I don't imbibe in alcohol or drugs for pleasure.

Nowadays if you injure someone while operating a vehicle under the influence you are going to pay a heavy price by doing jail time and losing your license in most cases. 25 years ago this wasn't the case.

The laws take time to effect change and they are working. Perhaps not fast enough for some, but, if you threw everyone in prison and revoked their licenses for good, you would lose a large chunk of the tax base. That is just reality. The republic-rats and demo-nazis in office realize it as well.

That's about how long I have belonged to MADD.

Now we need to go after aggressive, distracted, and incompetent motorists, as well.

You are the first MADD member I have conversed with. Did personal tragedy motivate you to join? With organizations like MADD, that is usually the motivating factor. Some become so obsessed that it becomes their reason for living. I always thought it would be a sad existence myself, hence I never actively looked for any MADD members.

So is MADD expanding their charter to these other drivers or is that your idea?

This woman is obviously disturbed. She went in several time to appologize??? But never to help. I don't even want to know what was going on in her head.

I joined MADD simply because the one thing I fear on the road, whether walking, cycling, or driving, is bad drivers.

I think MADD is holding its focus on drunk and drugged motorists. Going after aggressive, incompetent, and reckless drivers is probably outside its charter, even though I wish it weren't.
