Hello from Taji, Iraq

I am a contractor in Iraq. I ride on Taji where I work. Started with a local, junker HT with component types not seen since the 1970s. Had my Stumpjumper FSR sent over to deal with the extremely rough roads. Flat as a pancake, but destroyed by tanks, etc. I don't ride too far, but ride every day and manage about 100K per week.

Anyway, just checking in and introducing myself.

It's been very chilly really so far this year. Haven't seen 90 yet. But when it comes, it comes hard. It'll run at 120 all summer and well into Fall. But, we get reverse "feels like" temps here due to no humidity. It's funny to read 126F, feels like 118F. The dust is the real problem. There are days when you cannot even drive. Visibility can fall to well under 25 yards. Exercise is a pointless activity of coughing and wiping mud out of your eyes.

Where is Laveen? I lived in Flagstaff off and on growing up. Guess I could Google that, but if you're in the valley, you have a good idea of what real heat feels like.

Not sure. Things are really slowing down. We need to get out of this place, but we need to stay a bit longer to help get this right. I think we're going to leave a year or so too soon. But, am planning an exit in September. Might drag the FSR over to the Afghanistan, but I doubt riding is much of an option there. The FOBs just aren't big enough, and it's still pretty serious there.
