Need help planning a route across the southern US.

Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip from the San Diego area (starting out in Temecula) and am heading across to Toronto (Canada). I'm having trouble planning a route across the southwestern desert. So far, I've planned to head along the I-10 to Blythe since there doesn't seem to be much of an option.

From Blythe though, I'm stuck on where to go next. I'd like to avoid the mountain range in central Arizona if at all possible but I'm not sure which way to connect and get through New Mexico. If anyone has some advice on this, I would be grateful.
