I do all city riding, so my tubes get changed every time I get a flat. I can usually make my tires go a year. I guess swapping between two bikes helps.

Tire -- when they wear out. Tubes -- after a couple patch jobs.

Whenever they need it. Seriously, it all depends on how much you ride, what types of surfaces you ride on, your riding style, brands of your tires/tubes... the list goes on. There is no golden rule. Well, I guess if there was a rule, Sheldon's rule would be it.

I've replaced a few tire due to deep cuts and I know others that wear them to the chord. I'll patch a tube a million times, currently I have one tube with 8 patches
