Thanks.

I went to go ahead and try out my bike to see if I can get to the front mailbox near the club house/office in my apartment complex. Oh, the frustration--slight hills everywhere with speed bumps tilted about a 5 degree angle downward! I struggled with my bike so much while trying to keep myself in balance and in control.

Well, I'll just be walking over to the post office to return my Netflix movie instead.

Is that where Wal-Mart is located across the street? Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store is open 24 hours, if I remember right.

While I’m trying to get to the convenience store, I’ve been honked by driver behind me. I was almost able to keep my bike straight, though, but the problem with riding in the sidewalk, is that I have a lot of trouble keeping my bike straight and there’s a water drainage system to the left of where I’m going. It's very hard for me to avoid it. I did make sure the traffic is clear, though.

That 45 miles per hour speed limit near my apartment complex made it so impossible for me to ride on.

I wanted to get some coke at the convenience store using my bike and I have my backpack so I can carry my drink back to my apartment while the water pipe is been fixed. Ugh! 

I’m going to walk to the convenience store instead.

you really need to find a quiet place to ride. Go to a car park and practise slaloms between the lines. Practise emergency stops, riding in circles etc. Just get enough confidence that you don't ever need to stop because you lost your balance.

I'm not sure which car park you're referring to. Are you referring to parking lots with parked cars?

Car park is a British term for parking lot. Hopefully you can find one with few parked cars during off hours.

Okay, thanks.

But one problem is that if I'm going to walk my bike, I'll be blocking the path while in the sidewalk. It's very narrow because there will be sidewalk cyclists who will be passing me in the sidewalk.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just walk to the side and other cyclists can pass you. Sidewalk is mainly for walking.

Yeah, that's true. But most cyclists who travel using the sidewalk really don't expect to see pedestrians and they don't give me a warning before they pass me.

Thanks for your help, though.

That's not the way it works though. Just walk confidently, don't take the whole path, and they will go around you. You could walk facing traffic and then you will see them coming. Remember that you have a right to be there, and it's their job to see you and go around. Nobody wants to crash into you.

50 years ago my elder brother was blinded due to a rugby accident. He then bought a tandem. I found it very difficult to balance when starting with him, but violent wobbling of the handle bars made it a lot easier. When you turn the bars to the right it makes the bike lean to the left. When you turn the bars to the left it makes the bike lean to the right. As you build up speed you can reduce the size of the wobbles and keep going straight. Dont worry about the cars driving behind you, they wont want their paint scratched by hitting you.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I've already made some improvements in riding my bike, but thanks.
