Running a time trial?
I'm thinking about competing in a time trial this Saturday before the Philly In'tl Bike Race. It is an 8 mile course start to finish. This isn't really a track related post or a tri post so I thought this would be the best place to put it. Any good pointers or recommendations for a newbie in this realm?

are you thinking about promoting a time trial for other riders? There is the road racing forum.
If you are thinking about promoting a race, you might want to help with one like it first, even a small club time trial is non-trivial to run if you don't know what you are doing.

there is a sticky in the road racing forum about riding time trials. The long distance forum is for rides exceeding 100 miles. Be warned that the road racing forum is a bit of a closed club and they can be hard on newbies.
The main thing about time trials is not to start too fast, you'll blow up and go slow.

Are you talking about a 12 or 24-hour Time Trial?
If not ... perhaps this thread could be moved to a more appropriate forum, and perhaps the name of this forum could be changed to Ultracycling/Endurance Cycling or something like that to make it a bit clearer that this forum is for really long distances.

I like Randonneuring and Ultracycling myself since I think most of the regular posters in here are randonneurs. The problem with the word endurance is that people have different definitions of it, just like they have different definitions of "long distance"
I didn't want to move this post to where it should have been posted because they can be mean in there. And the sticky I linked to is called "before you post another time trial thread," that tells you everything you need to know about time trialling and a little more. If I moved this in there it would get filled with links to that thread. Maybe I'll delete it this weekend.
