That group of 4 at the front absolutely blew it. They were there for the win and they let Schleck and AC get back into the race. Incredible!

Watching Jens just a few meters from the summit just totally dead, he looked so disappointed that he couldn't quite make it! What a teammate, he killed himself for Schleck.

Yeah. It was obvious that he knew where the finish line was on that turn and simply put himself in position on the left side of the road so that anyone trying to come round would have to go right and that was the long way round today.

Andy did some attacking early after they broke away, couldn't drop Conti, who on the other hand didn't kill Schleck on the descent, and also didn't look like the super dude of yester-years.
Amazing day. Too bad Sanchez didn't catch those two before it flattened. Looks like he cramped up.
Good day for Saxo. Fuglsang, Voigt and Chris Anker did what the Astanas did on Stage 8.

Did he? Actually it sounds more remarkable than it is. A few years ago I crashed about 40 miles into a 125-mile event when someone went down on a gravel patch at the bottom of a descent and I rode right into him. Broke my fall with an outstretched hand and knew I'd done something to the elbow, but thought I'd just jarred it. Finished the event - another 85 very hilly miles - and only two weeks later, when the elbow still wouldn't quite straighten, discovered I'd fractured the radial head. It only really hurts when you try to rotate the arm, you can ride a bike with it perfectly well.

I said the other day that Evans looked weak and it showed today. The elbow fracture is a convenient excuse but he just doesn't have it. Schleck looked good but is lucky he didn't blow himself up with the attacks. Contador looked much better today. No idea who is looking bettter, but I'm leaning toward Contador looking stronger again. I guess it probably all just depends on the day. I think Lance showed that he is in shape and fit enough to have finished well on GC but his mistakes took him out of it. I don't think he could have gotten a podium spot without the crashes, flats, etc but top 10, maybe top 5 would not have been out of the question. Astana showed they are strong again and I am liking Contador more as time goes on. He is racing pretty smart and is seeming likable. Still hope Schleck pulls it off though. Too much fun!

My point being that they shouldn't have had to worry about anyone overtaking them and complicating their ride. Without the introduction of those three riders that final push for the finish would probably have played out differently. Sandy's obviously not going to get a lecture but I bet Cunego, Moreau (sp?), and Sanchez are wishing they had those last 2-3 kilometers to ride again. You see it time and again though where a small group will start the gamesmanship at the end and get caught from behind. Seems it's a lesson that was learned again today.

Right now, I think A. Schleck has to be more worried about Contador's TT ability, than Contador is worried about Schleck's climbing ability. On the climbing, they appear pretty close. On the versus coverage I think P. Liggit was saying that Contador can gain as much as 3 minutes on Schleck in the time trial.

Besides, any time you have a sprint finish, you're going to have a bunch of riders banging the handlebars and second-guessing their finishing tactics.
The fact that the breakaway basically succeeded on the toughest stage so far, including an HC climb, is pretty impressive. Even if it wasn't perfect, those guys have no reason to feel bad about their performance. Evans, on the other hand....
