Just traded a 50cm kilo tt for an 09 49cm Pista and I've gotten so used to my kilo that It's getting hard to adjust the new bike and I am not too good at sizing the bike properly. I feel like I need a longer reach. My standover is perfect because the Kilo was a little too high. Does anyone have any ideass on what I can try to get the feel of the pista the same as the mercier. I was thinking of switching to a 120mm stem because raising the seat high to the point that my foot is fully extended when the crank is at its lowest point still does not help with the reach. Maybe I'm just over reacting and I need to get used to this frame all on its own.



I am 5'7 with a 30" inseam if that helps

All else fails I'll go to my lbs and pay a markup on a black turbo saddle to get them to help me adjust the bike to fit me better.

5'7" on a 49cm frame. seems like that bike would be too small for you. can't tell though. might help to post a pic of your riding position.

longer stem might help along with maybe losing some spacers. who knows.

Will post riding position pictures tomorrow and I would have thought increasing the height of the stem would be better, so confused. I got angry It wasn't a quill stem but I felt it was a good deal on my end trading.

Mmm, a 50 cm kilo is 53 cm (c-t) right? So a transition from 53 to 49 is probably a big change

New stem sounds like a good idea if you have that 120mm as a spare part

You can probably find a used or "take off" stem at a local shop for less than that. Maybe free.

Expensive stems are expensive. Basic stems are a-dime-a-dozen.

Jerel if I am more comfortable with the standover on this frame would the change from 49cm to 53cm c-t really have an effect on anything else? I am considering putting the bicycle for sale if It won't fit me well.

I'm pretty much the same height as you with the same inseam and I ride a 53 Bianchi Pista and it fits perfectly. Then again mine is a 08, but still 49 seems like it's way too small for you. Try selling just the frame, keep the components and put em on another pista that fits you better.

for christ's sake don't adjust your saddle position (ie. lower body position) to accommodate your upper body.

1. get your leg and hip angles right.
2. take your bike to the bike shop.
3. swap stems with them until you find the size that fits. Most bike shops will let you trade with them for free or close to it.

Standover height is NOT the way to measure track bike fit. Heck, it's not the way to measure road bike fit either. It's an old rule of thumb from the department store bike departments.

More importantly, track bikes have a higher bottom bracket, therefore unless you trim 2 inches off of your legs, the top tube is going to be 2" higher than you expect. This is OK because when you are in the pedals, you are 2" higher off the ground than before. So it all works out. To put it simply: Track Bikes Sit Taller than other bikes. This is so that your pedals clear the banked surface of the velodrome or clear the ground when pedaling through a turn.

Top Tube Length is a MUCH better parameter to use for making fit decisions.

That was why I thought that post was irrelevant. I need to try and find a 53cm now I guess not many here in Florida at least to my knowledge.

The Pista also comes in a 51cm. I tried both 51cm and 53cm and felt better on the 53cm. I'm 5'8" with a 32" tucked-balls-to-ground measurement (30" inseam pants). Depending on your upper body though you could be either a 51cm or 53cm. I was right on the border but felt the 53cm fit me a tad better.

My torso is not long but I have a pretty big back.

I flipped the stem and it definitely feels alot better but when I sprint I wobble a bit and I remember with my kilo I had alot more control. I am going to see what my local bike shop says about the build and maybe try a longer stem, if anything they can help me sell it too.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I found both a 51cm and 53cm Pista for the same price and conditions. I am looking for the frame with the closest geometry to my 50cm Kilo TT (53cm c-t). The standover is not an issue more like the lenght of the top tube and maybe the angles but i'm not too sure.
