Help, I have knee pains and potassium deficiency while training for event

This weekend I rode 55 miles along the route that the race will take. About 20 miles in my right knee started to feel stiff, then it went away after stopping to stretch a few time and about 10 miles more riding. About that time my left knee started to feel the same way, this time the problem didnt go away with stretching and riding. It bugged me the rest of the ride. The stiffness is right around the knee cap on the inside of my leg. Does anyone know what I can do? Or what is causing the stiffness?

Anyone know a good strategy to keep from getting low on potassium during a race? Gu or something?

1. Patello femoral syndrom or chondromalacia. There's a chance your saddle is too low.
See this site: https://www.cptips.com/knee.htm

2. Eat foods that are high in potassium.
These are based on levels per 100-gram serving ... https://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-...0000000-w.html
Specifically nuts: https://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-...ml?maxCount=97
Specifically fruits: https://nutritiondata.self.com/foods-...ml?maxCount=40

Another list of foods that are high in potassium ... https://www.fatwat.com/weightloss/pot...-rich-food.htm

Personally, I like dried apricots, potato chips, almonds, and bananas.

Regarding the knee pain, I would tend to agree with Machka regarding your knee pain. This sounds like a classic "saddle too low" scenario. Other aggravating factors may be simple lack of stretching and/or your physiology in general. You may want to play with you saddle height a bit, and if it's in your budget, get yourself a professional fit with a reputable shop or custom builder.

Thanks for the reply, I actually raised my seat about 1/2 inch at about 34 miles into the ride... I dont remember if it got better or not, but I guess we will see this weekend when I run another training ride.

ok I might know why I had the problem... the day before my 55 mile ride, I went for a ride on my mountain bike with a few guys in a local club. My seat is low on the mountain bike because I needed it lower for down hill, but we also climbed a difficult 2500 ft to the top of the hill... I'm gonna guess that aggravated my knees enough to give me pain the next day. My seat on my road bike was in the right position, could have been slightly higher I guess.

I dunno I guess we will see.

thanks for posting the links to the potassium information
