Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why are you all too fat for this sport?

Here's why.

I calculated the caloric intake I require (age 52, 170 lbs.) to maintain body weight without exercise: 1700 calories daily. That's not too many calories, particularly considering my proclivity for yodels and Lays Sour Cream and Onion potato chips. I'm telling you that whatever your notion of how many calories you need, it's inflated, much like your pathetic Fred asses.

Eff me. As if that even needed to be said.

I will now STFU and ride my bike.

Oh by the way, the calories you burn cycling are probably not as high as you think they are either. Figure 400-500 cal per hour if you're going easy. 700-1000 per hour if you're really going hard (intervals, racing).

I'm going on net 1330 cals a day, using 35cals per mile. I'm down from 245 to 198. Under 170 I'd look emaciated at 5'10" with my musculature. 175 is my goal.

And yes, we all eat too much.

I just ate some Baked Cheddar & Sour Cream Ruffles. Only 140 calories.

Maybe I'll eat another.

I recently discovered a recipe for red velvet cake; it is so moist and delicious, and easy to make too. The cream cheese frosting is what really puts it over the top. In conclusion, liking fatty foods and being able to make said fatty foods is a bad combination.

the one thing I do like about all this food bidness is that I've discovered foods that make me happy. Beets and rice crackers, wax cut beans, fat free yoghurt, black olives etc.

I've replaced salt with vinegar. Parmesan replaced with sesame seeds etc. I've discovered the joy of cooking food again.

Being young and having a high metabolism really helps.

I'm pretty light, but it doesn't mean I'm fast. Guys 50 pounds more than me have dropped me on climbs.
