Needing Help [New Guy]
So recently I started biking again, and i decided to buy an old Road Bike for the heck of commuting rather than relying on public transportation and driving everywhere. Ever Since I can remember, I never utilized the potential of changing gears on a bike, so I always stayed in one gear set, my cousin was talking to me about changing it up a notch or two to a fixed gear or a single speed bike, in honestly i would prefer a single speed. Well, anyways.. enough of that, The gear i run on the Road Bike is 39 on the front and 25 on the back. Is is possible to get a 25t for the rear tire if I was to build up a bike from a frame up?
PS. I tried out 39/17 and it wasnt quite bad, but i would prefer if 39/25 was possible.
Thanks, Jason

Do you live somewhere with HUGE hills or something?
I've never seen a 25t SS freewheel. You can check out this site https://software.bareknucklebrigade.c...it.applet.html and mess around with chainring/sprocket sizes to get similar gear inches. For example, a 34-35t chainring and a 22t freewheel would be almost be the same.

You must be spinning like mad, and going nowhere. You sure you're counting right? Unless you live in the mountains then that's insane.

You're going to have a hard time finding a single freewheel with more than a 22T cog. What you could try is a 110 bcd crank with a 34T chainring, which would give you a 1.55 gear ratio similar to the 1.56 ratio with a 39/25. Otherwise, if you have a cassette, you can get a spacer kit and use the 25T cog from your cassette.

If you never shift then just leave it. If you're always in the 25t cog then maybe you just have to ride or a while longer just to build a bit if a base in cycling. I'm not against the SS idea, but since you're new maybe just stick with what you have and see if you really like it before spending money

haha, thanks for the replies guys. Yeah the only reason why I wanted to use 39/25 was because it was the gear ratio it was on when I got it from the thift store, and I road it as is. With the 39/25 I only had to pedal once for every other street light and it would cruise me all the way down to the next one. Right after I posted this, i called my cousin and he said hes running something along the lines of "46/17" on his bike, and I had no problem with that at all. But if 39/25 cant possibly work, time to stop being lazy and cruise everywhere in the city haha.

Oh god, that is one of my bikes biking pet peeves. Pedaling to coast is what I like to call it. Where the rider pedals like twice then coasts for as long as possible then gives another pedal or 2 and so on and so on. I don't know why, but it pisses me off beyond belief. Maybe I have anger issues...

Haha, but in my defense i only coast in the morning when all the main streets are empty of traffic and people, because Im to lazy to pedal regularly at 5 in the morning, in the afternoon / rush hours is the times when i put it into 39/17 since its the only actually gets me places.
