Hanging your bike up?
If I hang by bike from the ceiling from its rim, will it damage or mishape the rim?

You gonna eat that?
Yes. It will create micro-cracks that will propagate into your fork, causing your fork to wobble, which will increase the wear on your headset, which will cause a resonance in your bottom bracket that transmits up the seat tube which will cause a catastrophic failure of your seat rails. You don't want that to happen do you?
No, it won't hurt a thing. The wheel is used to supporting the weight of the bike PLUS you when you're on it, hanging just the bike by the wheel is no biggie.

Ponder your own question for a bit. Then think about your weight when you ride the bike. Are you heavier than your bike frame?

You'd be surprised how many times that question comes up. I don't see it as the question of an idiot; it's the question of someone who cares about their bike.

Some suspension forks don't like being upside for long periods of time.

I have always wondered if hanging a bike by the front wheel only will damage the headset

Hang it by the rear wheel and all the blood will rush into the head[tube] and give the bike a nasty head[tube]ache.

If you're concerned about those Zipp 404's that cost you $2,500 +, maybe you can hang it by the top tube. Or alternatively, take off the front wheel and just use an old rim and put that on the bike and let that rim take the weight.
