Noob BB question.

Hi

Building up a Surly Pacer. First bike build since I was a kid 35+ years ago.

The Pacer requires a 68mm, threaded English 1.37x24t bottom bracket according to the paperwork.

The Shimano 5500 will do the job right ?

And I'd need the 68x109.5 version cause I'm putting a 105 double on it ?

Thanks for any advice.

John

Refer to Sheldon's info on chainline, take into account the hub/cassette you are using and figure it out. You are asking us to do the same thing you can do with information readily available, but on a bike we don't own without the information we need.

After you do that feel free to tell us what you came up with if you want confirmation that you have figured things correctly. Part of both the enjoyment and responsibility of taking on a bike build it to learn everything you need to know.

You are good to go. Slap it on. The 5500 BB is designed to work with the 105 (5501) crankset.

Yep. That'll work. 5500 is an old standard though - only works with octalink v1, which shimano doesn't make any more. Maybe you know all this, but thought I should mention it.
