Sram Red Front Derailer

First time Sram user, is it normal for them to have a loud pop when down shifting?
If not what is wrong with mine.

Never personally used sram on any of my bikes, but I have found them to be extremely mechanical and raw sounding. Question for you: is the popping sound coming from the shifter or the derailleur?

As a Sram red user I can say that the actual FD makes no sound at all but the shifters certainly make a distinctive clicking noise, I guess it could be described as a pop noise also.
But you do know you have made a shift!
