Public Bikes
Has anyone checked these out? They look interesting - reasonably priced, kind of generic but it looks like they're well thought out.

They're basically old/European style single speeds.

i've seen them before.
They are owned by Design Within Reach (yes, the furniture company who's prices are certainly not within reach)

Design Within Reach - interesting. They're known for knocking off great designers. So it's more of a fashion bike. It's pretty close to what I had in mind for my wife.

They remind me of Republic bikes:

This made me laugh:

The founder goes on about a mid 80's bike and then tries to tie it back to a Public bike with that a consumer should have the same expectations ? What does another brand of bike made 2 1/2 decades ago have anything to do with a Public bike ? There are hi-ten bikes made 3+ decades ago that are still ridable.

*Founder's Note:
"I still ride around on a steel frame bike (just like our PUBLIC D series) that I purchased in 1986 for $800. It has been up and down the West Coast, to Hawaii, Italy, France, Wales, and places I am too old to remember. Our good friends at American Cyclery in San Francisco have overhauled it once, two years ago. But the frame and forks are still original. The bike is still pretty, and it still turns heads. I do not have any other object that has given me as much pleasure and good value. You should expect the same from a PUBLIC bike."
