with a dog, depending on the type, you could make it pull a small cart for itself? (kinda like a dog slay team does) just an idea

anyway here's me and my set up at lizard point (tour was from lowestoft to lands end then to lizard) about 600 miles

Yeah make the dog work for it's tucker not a bad idea.

Ok your keen hauling a boat as well it's a first for me but doing it with no trailer I take my hat off to you your super human... Jokes aside what is on your front wheel spokes is that reflective material? Had to laugh at your towel pegged on the basket I ride with socks and the like pegged over my bike drying as well it's like a travelling laundry some days.

that boat would of been a pain to haul they weigh a tone!, and yer there reflective things which clip onto your spokes, i think they were £2 in lidils. the towel was there all the time, with writing on saying "lowestoft to lands end" a few cars stopped to talk, and i got a couple of camping stops from it. so i guess it helped a little =] i had all my cloths (besides the ones i was wearing) out one day hanging to dry

Mike455555 how effect are the spoke reflectors? Ah ok on the towel I don't know about you but some folks pick the wrong time to chat and get on my goat in doing so. I can never sit in peace and drink a brew or eat something without being disturbed. Sometimes I'm ok with it but other times I just want my space..... Drying clothes is always hard most times it's late in the afternoon or night when you pitch your tent so the only time you have to dry things is to use your bike as a cloths line. Either that when ever you stop to cook up a meal to set-up a line to hang your gear over before moving on again.

Cheers

well bikeing in the day i dident have much use for them, but iv seen a bike light on them and they shine up really bright, there very light and to be honest if thats what the car see's and stops it from hitting you id say its worth it. i liked talking to people, no matter where i was there was so much time when your on your own any convos are nice. as for the washing i got luckyish on the weather here. heat wave into the 30's quick for drying a pain to bike in, although i did like the few hour long lunch breaks to avoid the mid day heat

It's an 11L Carradice Pendle saddlebag with a Bagman2 Q/R Sport rack. It worked rather nicely on my 3 day mini-tour. The 2 side pockets are great for quickly accessing items with clips on them like a knife, flashlight, and pen, without having to unbuckle the straps.

Sure thing, I don't blame ya! Oh, but check your e-mail you have listed for Bikeforums. I tried sending you a PM with some details, but it didn't let me because I'm not at 50 posts yet. So instead I sent you an e-mail.

The best summer ever : ) I'm guessing many of you know precisely where this is! A big thanks to all the posters on this forum! The bike setup and gear I chose were largely from discussion on this very forum.

It's not done yet, I'll be working on finishing up sometime this coming week, but: www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/12045

So what areas are you going to be riding in? Any particular routes you're looking forward to?

Vermont to Montreal to Toronto, then over the tops of the Great Lakes, then on to Winnipeg and then (assuming the border crossing isn't too gnarly) a brief return to the US for Glacier National Park. Then, assuming the snow isn't too intense, I'll head north to Jasper and Banff along the Icefields Parkway, and then west to Vancouver. Then I'll take the transcontinental railroad home!

What bladder are you using? I have a tangle and a full frame bag. My platypus 'big zip' bladders just don't fit.

Not mine, but came across this rig the other day at work south of Seattle. He was riding from San Diego to Canada and was on the return trip to San Diego.

what is the purpose of that pulley that the chain goes around just aft of the crankset? To raise the chain for going over stuff-thats what I thought at first but then figured the chainrings would still dig in logs or rocks you'd be going over if they were that high anyway.
