I love cycling/another beautiful sunday afternoon(Semi image heavy)
At a friends birthday party, months ago I met a girl who said she was looking to buy a bicycle to get around campus. I said "cool, if you need help let me know"
Semester begins, she gives me a call and says "are you ready to go check out some bikes?"
A week later we find an old, heavy but perdy Sturde women's road bike, it was the best bang for the buck we could find in her size, so she picked it and then treated me to lunch for driving all around L.A looking at bikes with her.
Jump ahead half a semester, she texts me a few weeks ago and asks me if I want to go grab some Dim Sum, hell yes. So we invite our mutual friend. Or I do. He meets up with me around 11 Sunday morning. He uses my road bike since the SoB hasn't found a suitable bike yet and we head off to USC to meet up with her. She says she wants to drive to China town...We have other plans.
We get there and it takes little convincing before she hops on her bike and we take off towards China town to gorge ourselves on delicious dumplings. An hour and a half after we sat down, with difficulty we head out of the restaurant with no intent of riding back to USC that full of food.
I suggest heading to L.A historic Park which I've never been to and my friend suggests we head to Elysian Park which over looks Downtown LA. As we head towards Elysian park he points on the bare, dumpy looking L.A Historic Park next to some warehouses, his is the better choice. After riding up a small climb there is a little turn of that leads into a pedestrian walk next to the 110 which mi amigo insists will lead us into the park. A questionable area to be walk, so I ride it. On a tiny path next to the 110 heading into China Town we find a gate that leads straight into the park, the only caveat, it's locked, and about 8 feet high. I jump the gate and we take the bikes over one by one as a couple of more vanilla cyclists give us strange looks. I feel I should also note that this was literally next to the 110 so I'm sure a lot of motorists were left asking questions too.
After a mix of riding dirt trails on my 23's and hiking up the side of a mountain (Mountain shoes made me feel like a king as I climbed) this is what we come to.
This is the spot where we all fall over and end up napping for an hour or so (at least I did. Messenger bags = pillows in disguise)
And the Dowtown Los Angeles Skyline on a November afternoon. This next picture looks out at a more Eastern side. It was taken as the sun started to go down, thats not all smog
From Elysian park we headed towards USC through Downtown, stopping at the Grand Market in Downtown Los Angeles
Where a rent-a-cop was somewhat surprised to see us casually stroll through with our bikes. Ended up having to lock them up while we sat outside, drank some juice and enjoyed the beautiful evening.
And the beautiful bikes that facilitated one of the best afternoon's i've had all semester
(My Jamis and Univega Road, and the Sturdee 10 speed I helped locate)

But really... sounds like a blast. This makes me wish I had spent a little less time studying and a little more time exploring. Sigh...

Riveting tale chap. avner, you are definitely one of the few people on my shortlist that I would like to ride and hang out with.
Sunday afternoons are perfect to live our lives so pleasantly.

Sounds awesome! Man how you people going to universities in cool areas make me jealous! Im stuck here at Central Michigan University, in well, central Michigan where our forcast for tomorrow is a high of 34, snow, and winds at 25mph.
So enjoy your nice November ride and post more photos to make us jealous..haha
For real though, thats pretty cool! I enjoyed the photos along with the story.

next time, don't bring your friend. she obviously is hoping to rest on something other than the messenger bag, if you catch my sexual overtones.

Take some chances, man!
I would definitely hit you and other members up when I do come down here. I have been making plans with bunch of buddies of a road trip from Vancouver all the way down to somewhere in California and may extend east from there...but that'll be a long way down the road.

You know...I wonder what would have happened if avner didn't invite the third wheel.
I mean sure, she might not be your cup of tea but still, I think something amazing would have happened... :|

Avner you should go back and edit the original post into some kind of erotic novella, because it's clear that Vixtor isn't gonna let this go.

it's coz the intro of the story, starting with talking with a girl back a forth, lead to such an anti-climatic ending. The scenary is beautiful, dont' get me wrong and i'm sure u had a wonderful time and riding ur bike rocks. Juz sayin' with the intro it was looking like it was leading somewhere more.. iono

Well, I'm not sure anything would have happened if avner wasn't into it. This isn't a romantic comedy, you know.
