Flat spotted my Dyad rim
I've been an infrequent commuter lately. Back on the bike today, heavily loaded rear panniers and a moments inattention in the dark and I hit a big hole in the pavement. My handle bars rotated down a bit and I was listening for a couple of snakebite flats. No flats (Schwalbe marathon plus) but I now have a flat spot on my rear rim. There is also a small crack at the spoke hole. I built it myself with Dyad rim, double butted spokes and Phil hub. I have a spare rim hanging in the garage but I hate to have ruined my first built rim. I've been riding it for about eight years. Lotsa miles.
Just wanted to share with a hopefully sympathetic audience.

OK here it is ... Awww, ... now you can go out and buy a new rim,
(oh you have a spare)
get another of the same and you can tape them together ,
and just move the spokes from one to the other, with out re lacing ..
You built the wheel, the Aussie company built the rim,

After 12-14 years I finally put a bend in my first front rim (sniff).

Sorry to hear of the dying Dyad elares. I built a pair with Dyads for my wife last year. Pretty tough rim. 8 yrs isn't bad. Fietsbob's idea is likely how I would proceed since your other components are high quality. Be sure to check the ERD carefully before purchase. I'm sure you recorded the ERD of the original in your wheelbuilders's notebook right?

Why shouldn't I re-use my existing spokes? Same hub,spokes,rim(replacement) I won't need to know the ERD that I didn't write down in my wheelbuilders notebook

hey I put a flat spot in my Dyad about a month ago. took it to the shop that built the wheel for me,and they sort-of banged it back into shape. maybe worth a try.
I can see that it doesn't spin perfectly, but I can't tell any difference on the road

My first self-built wheels didn't quite make it a year before I managed to drop the chain between the cassette and the spokes, but this was sort of a proud moment for me as only one spoke severed and I just hooked it around the spoke next to it and rode on to work and home again without any trouble.
