Here's a great Christmas Eve bike-shop photo; kids' bikes ready for pick-up

One of our local bike shops in Seattle, Gregg's, just posted this in their Twitter feed.

Two rows of bikes that are ready for Christmas Eve pick-up....

I was walking my dog yesterday, and passed a man in his driveway assembling two kid's bikes. Classic.

I was at my bike shop's - you'll forgive me - Christmas party and open house, and saw two kids bikes go out. That almost made up for the bad - excuse the word - Christmas music the shop was playing. It seemed to be half the items in the thread on bad holiday music.

Me too! It was bright yellow with a sparkly banana seat and high handlebars. Thanks Santa!

There was one Christmas that I got two bikes - a 3 speed and 10 speed department store specials. There was a store, Grants, that went bankrupt and was closing. They picked up the pair for $70. The three speed got run over by a car pulling out of a driveway not too long after I got it, but I had that BSO 10 speed for years and years. Crappy rusted steel wheels -- but by gummy it was a 10 speed.

I didn't have a 'real' bike until I was 30 years old --

Mine had fox tails on the handlebars. I was about 10, can't remember the brand, but the bike was a single speed, multicolored beauty. Big smile on Christmas morn. I rode it proudly for years. One of my favorite family memories. Hope my kids have similar feelings.
Also hope that all of you have a great holiday and add to your memories.

I got my first bike Christmas eve. I rode a mile and crashed when a mailbox jumped in front of me. It was my first bike ever. I was 40.

Who says you can't be a kid again? I got to be one for the first time in middle age.

I used to rent bikes at Greggs when I was a kid. Family rides around Green Lake every Sunday. When I got my first bike on Christmas I went out to proudly ride in front of the family. My dad hadn't tightened the front wheel bolts. Somehow the front wheel came off and I landed on the top tube. We've all felt that pain, right? No lawyers' lips in those days, I guess. Anyway, it was still a happy Christmas. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Yesterday I went to Wally World for a last minute present for my wife. I watched as three bikes were purchased in the span of about 10 minutes. The bike racks were 2/3 empty. It's that time of year.

My first bike was also a Christmas gift--a used Columbia my dad fixed up and painted for me. It was the best bike I ever had!
