You know they say that pets and their owners start to look alike. I think that goes for bikes as well. You two make a fine looking couple and your folders look cute together too.

Great pics. Sweet looking bikes

Much obliged and thanks for your kind words buddy!

Yeah, the folding bike trend is growing in Malaysia. We have Dahons, Bromptons, some Moultons, Birdies and so on, with the exception of Bike Friday..

here are some highlights from our outings..

We celebrated the 2011 New Year's Eve with our Dahons..

Me and my wife at a night ride

The Dahon Curve D3 is a nippy bike!

The folding bike community is growing..

Here's a father and son team with their 2010 Dahon Speed P8 and Curve D3

Hello folks!

Firstly, greetings from Malaysia.. Michelle and I completed a 40km loop around Sekinchan, a rice-growing area which is roughly about 1.5 hours drive from our home.

Rice is a staple diet in Asia and Malaysia grows about 50% for its own consumption while the remaining grain are imported from Thailand, Vietnam and China. This is why we have enjoyed a wonderful trade relationship with the countries mentioned.

The grain in planted three times a year and we've just missed the harvest season... Here are some photos from our ride in the paddy fields..

Mrs Samo setting up her bike, much to the amusement of a curious passer-by

Making some final adjustments

Beginning our ride..

This is a straight paved-road stretching about 8km, it links to the water source for the paddy field's network of irrigation canals..

We missed the harvest as the farmers have just shipped out their new crop..

A farmer tending to his field..

We made our way to the end of the paved road..

Continued our ride towards another village

Detoured to a section of the Trans-Peninsular Malaysia Gas pipeline where Michelle used to work on..

My wife proudly poses on a section of the pipeline which she helped to build..

The Samos and their Dahons...

A white water lily in full bloom, you can only catch this early in the morning..

We resumed our ride to a Malay rice-growing village..

Egrets feeding on critters living in the soil

A beautiful red water lily

Some farmer's kids admiring the Dahon and its GPS receiver

We made our way across to a fishing village some 4km away..

This is one of many, many small fishing villages dotting the West Coast shoreline of Peninsular Malaysia..

This is the 'widow-maker' stretch from Sungai Burong to Sekinchan town where many cyclists were killed by speeding trucks..

You've gotta have nerves of steel to ride along this route as traffic is consistently heavy

We were nearing the town, a 34km loop around the paddy fields and small villages..

Reaching the town's only traffic-light junction...

At the town's market square - this lady is selling bananas and mangoes..

Hahahah!!! Thanks Suzanne! :buddies:

You can purchase some fresh produce here which is good and cheap..

We parked our bikes for some light refreshment..

A trademark of one of the oldest coffee shops in town..

Life is simple here, the farmers and fishermen would spend time catching up after a hard day's work..

After some ice-coffee, we linked up with another group of riders..

Our friends, seen here setting up their folding bikes..

A son waits as his father sets up a rattan chair on his bicycle..

A new rider rigging up her Oyama single-speed folding bike..

We took this photo and headed back to the paddy fields again..

Riding along the earth bun is truly a unique experience!

A nursery area where young paddy seedlings are awaiting to be planted on the fields..

We made a pit-stop here before moving on to another village..

The paddy seedlings getting its daily shower..

Mrs Samo riding with Angela, the ride organiser on her Curve SL, one of two high-performance 16" folding bike in Malaysia..

We stopped at this coffee shop before heading for a seafood lunch in the fishing village..

With lunch, we were done for the day..

Sharing a moment with the riders before we hit the road..

@samosaurus - you might ask the forum admin to reassign posts #9-15 to a separate thread titled "Sekinchan Adventures" or something of the sort. This ride report is great, but the current thread title (along with the other miscellaneous posts) just doesn't do it justice. Again, this is a great ride report and I look forward to seeing your others!

... or post it as an HTML page as Jur does.

BYW, Jur, I tried to follow the link in your signature and got a 404 page not found error.
