those old Raleigh fork lock keys...

OK, sorry if I am going over old ground.

But my '55 4 speed FG-hubbed Raleigh roadster came with a steering/fork lock, but - you guessed it - no key

Now I have read before that there are two kinds, and if you have the lock number a new key is easily obtained. Certainly there is a guy on UK ebay who will do them.
My problem is I cannot see a lock number, only a patent number

Any clues as to 'where-to' from here?

thanks, Al

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

Next step, remove the lockset and take it to a local locksmith. I was told by mine that the key blank is a Leyland and they couldn't do anything. They couldn't, until I pulled the key from my 70s era Sears Craftsman toolbox from my pocket and shoved it in the lockset and asked them if they could make it from a blank for that key. They could and did.

I didn't think the Leyland Key Blanks were that hard to find.

Probably not, but my local locksmith has this thing about 'foreign crap', as he calls it. Cranky old bastard but he does good work.

You’ll find more info in the archives on our site, under the “General Resources” tab, but your lock takes an Ilco LF-5 or LF-19 key blank. Any locksmith can cut the pattern using the code (NGN-35).
