Trek + Reno, NV = Awesome
I have no car. I ride my 1987 Trek 330 everywhere i need to go. Just finished my B.S. in biology from University of Nevada Reno. Work in a research lab, it sucks. looking to tour across the states this summer. If that goes well i'm hoping to plan more trips around the world. not sure what i want to do with my life. that is all.

Wow, Ian! Bravo for not having the automobile! I have seen several web pages about touring across the US recently (here's a guy from Colorado who will be doing it next month. https://www.bikeacrossamerica.net/).
I just sold my last petroleum powered vehicle two days ago. It's all self-powered for me from here on out.
Regardless of your age, you can do whatever you want with the rest of your life. Bravo!

My grocery getter is a Trek 800 Antelope, down here in Vegas... Welcome to the forums, and enjoy the sunny weather in the northern part of the state... How long was the crossing. miles, and time? What route did you use?

Wish you the best in this crossing the state endeavor, and when you make the ride, post a blog and keep us updated... I am going to register and participate in the 2 day Seattle to Portland ride in July with family, will be to warm for other than early morning riding here starting the middle of May until mid September... Last year I did not ride much in July /August, but in June and September I was able to ride at sun-up for about an hour before the heat became oppressive...

ah the heat in vegas is a real downer sometimes. i lived there for one summer awhile back and just couldnt handle it. biking down there has got to be a little crazy with all that traffic as well.

I grew up in the central valley of California, was hotter there than here in Vegas. 100 at midnight was common with the moisture from the delta in summer it was horrid, but winter time with the fog it was beyond belief and dangerous to drive. I remember weeks you could not see your hand at the end of your outstretched arm's in that white soup, but as a kid thought foggy day schedules were fun, no school...
Moved to Lake Tahoe, and hated the snow, and tourist that would stop in the middle of the road blocking traffic to get out of the car to take a picture of the lake or a bear when I was trying to get to work. I guess every where has a different perspective good and bad. I ride on E.Tropicana Ave. often but the side lanes on Flamingo are preferable in traffic. I ride an average of 22 miles on the east side of UNLV daily, but have tried to boost that as I try to increase my distance, for the STP event...
