Help me understand fork+headset differences
I am a bit confused about the differences between threaded and threadless setups.
I purchased a Windsor The Hour with a threaded fork setup. The Cannondale that I have is also a threaded setup, both using the same size quill stems. I have had a 1" threadless setup (Kilo) and now a 1 1/8" (Madison).
I need to purchase a new headset for the Windsor as I am painting the bike, and I would like to switch to Threadless if I can. Here is where I get confused...
Is there a steer tube size difference between 1" and 1 1/8"? Is the headset setup dependent on the frame? everybody talks about swapping Kilo setups to threaded, but I am just having the hardest time wrapping my head around this issue.

I threw on a few 1" headset spacers onto the Cannondale and they fit like a glove A.k.A both the Windsor and the Cannondale are 1" quill stem setups and therefor if I want to go Threadless on the Windsor I must find a 1" headset and a 1" fork correct?

Yep. The threaded/threadless stuff can be hard to understand at first. This might help: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/headsets.html

From my understanding it is a lot easier to go from a threadless set-up to a threaded set up then from a threaded to threadless.
However, velo orange does sell a converter to go from a threaded set-up to a threadless.

Uh, I think the process is the same; new headset and a new fork. Threadless forks might not have the right inner diameter to fit a quill stem even if they've been threaded.

You will need a 1" threadless fork and 1" threadless headset.
Basically, both fork and headset will be need to be threadless.

I still have the original fork from the windsor. I need a new headset for it, and since I have the fork, I'll just keep it threaded and find a quill stem that will work.
...As for the new fork and stem that I picked up... I guess I'll just have to find a new frame for them

Whoa... I thought that picture of the stem was a picture of a funky seat collar and its reflection off of a really shiny surface. Da der.
