New toy - 1st carbon frame for me
I can't figure out how to link this as an image so here is a link to the carbon frame I just purchase as my reward for 8 weeks of success on my 52 lbs in 52 weeks(225.4 - 216.4 last night). I realize that this a used carbon frame and that I'm taking a risk that its not usable. But at $260 I figure that is a risk worth taking as the way I would have gone othersize was to purchase a frame direct from China. SO no lectures about the risks of used carbon please.
https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=150575558773
It should be in my hands by the end of the week and now I can start building up the parts to go on it. The plan is to see if I can build a 16 lb bike that is clyde safe for $750 in parts (not including shipping).
So far I now have the frame, a front deraileur (105), the one of the new rims (H + son SL42) I'll attach to a current set of Reynolds hubs, the stem, a seat, and a set of brakes. I'm planning to buy Microshift Arsis rear deraileur and shifters ($200 new), so that will leave $200 for everything else. It will be tough since it looks like I'll need to spend $100 for the crankset. But if I can get all the parts and have it together by end of June I should have a sleek climbing machine for the Mountain Mama ride first weekend of August.

I'm looking at either the FSA hollow core Energy compact cranks or FSA gossamer compact. I'm toying with going to a 170 length arm instead of the 172.5 I currently ride as a small effort to take a little load of my knees and also force myself to spin more.

I have an FSA gossamer. I wouldn't buy another one. It doesn't shift all that well, and I think it's the reason why chains don't last on that bike.

I've had a number of FSA cranksets and not had any problems. But the more I read about the current versions, I may rethink the idea of using one. Any suggestions on light and affordable compacts would be appreciated?

Nice man. I bought a Bianchi Infinito last year and the carbon is fantastic. I'm 250ish and pedal hard for short distances and carbon, by far, was the best choice for me. Has held up great too (cant say so much for the wheels though).

tons of compact and triple cranks here. buy it now is very reasonable and if you bid you'll probably come away with one for less

But lecturing others on the choices they make is what we do best ;-).
1. you need at least 32 spoke wheels
2. you can not ride on 23mm tires
3. carbon will break catastrophically
4. aluminum is to harsh
5. road bikes are uncomfortable
6. get a hybrid
7. etc, etc, etc...

Congrats on your weight loss, and best of luck reaching your goal.
Now figure out how to post pictures before your frame arrives!

Unfortunately, the frame arrive, and a detailed evaluation of the scratches found that there is a small crack in the downtube so I'll be availing myself of the seller's return policy. I did the coin tap test and there is a significant change in tone at the point of the crack. I had it looked at by a couple people and they agreed I shouldn't fool with it and send it back. IF had been in the sea tpost, I would have tried to work with it. Hopefully, the return goes smoothly and I can find another frame I can afford. Such is life, onward and upward (or downward in the case of my weight).

Natbla, what type of pedals do you ride and you'll need the frame to know what size seat post, but I may have something laying around.

I use speedplay light action. I may have a trade in the works that will get me some pedal. I'm hoping to have a frame soon once I get my refund for the original frame. After that I'll figure out the stem and seat post item.

Too bad Pinarello doesn't have recourse from copycat manufaturers in China. Hope your Chinerello is made better than my fake Rolex was...

Fair enough, I guess I could have picked a different frame style. But at the end of the day, I just like the way this frame looks even though I could have save $30-$40 if I'd picked one of the 3 other frame styles available. According to ebay, the frame has been posted as shipped so hopefully I'll get a tracking number in the 3-5 days.

For now I'm planning on leaving alone with the 12K nude finish. I may add some red race stripes or even a few words at a later time. I just purchased red bar tape and have a red GP4000 tire for one wheel (still need a second one), so red accents against black is what I'm going for at this point.
